I really wanted to like this game, the characters are really charming, and I found myself constantly enjoying at all the Otaku culture references in it, but the main gameplay loop is just incredibly shallow.
When I purchased this as a maid cafe game, I was expecting more depth in that “Maid Café” part—learning your regular’s preferences, learning new recipes and making up dishes with the maids, figuring out how to make different kinds of coffee and setting up collaborations with other shops. Sadly, none of that is present. Instead, you’re given a simple interface to select compatible maids for each shift day, press A when customers want to order and when they want to pay, and delivering dishes from the counter to them. There is no cooking mechanic for the protagonist (The button that says improve cooking merely gives a small boost to your kitchen staff).
All maids are identical beyond appearance and numeric parameters for Waitressing/Cooking/Cleaning, with no niches or gimmicks that you may want to play around, and all the “dishes” are reduced to a different sprite, without any name, recipe, ingredient requirements, preferences or price. The coffee-making mechanic is incredibly underutilized, appearing only on 14 of the over 50 days of the game (You only get a chance to make each coffee exactly one time).
There is a boutique and a hair stylist in the game. The former exists only for story events and the latter is either bugged or is a small visual gag and nothing else, the maids and the protagonist’s appearance cannot be customized by the player in any way.
The cafe, too, cannot be personalized in any way, the furniture store besides your café will only grant you 2 tables across the first couple weeks of the game, with no other use after that, and the florist to the right of it exists only as part of the gift giving mechanic.
There is a gift-giving mechanic, but just like the rest of the game it is INCREDIBLY shallow; none of the maids have any preferences (Gifting a makeup set will give the same result to a Chunni Otaku and to a Gyaru) and they also don’t have any distinction between gifts and will react in the exact same way at being given a box of chocolates as if you give them a cleaning/cooking/service instruction manual.
For the dating mechanic, you can only go on dates with the maids on some specific days (the game main story has a tight schedule) and the phone that you use at the start of the game only exists to receive some messages during the story, there is no way to start a conversation or go on a date after the shift, and your protagonist (that again, you can’t customize in any way) doesn’t exhibit ANY personality beyond the first day of the game.
Your cafe's popularity isn’t determined by your performance, but by a single button in the break room which can be used with the money destined to “cafe expenses” collected during each day (Which has no other uses than to press this button, there is no need to pay rent or purchase ingredients).
Some other reviews might suggest that this game could work as a visual novel, it could not. The main gameplay loop, as shallow as it might be, butts in every single day of the story of the game, being a mandatory part of the experience that you (sadly) cannot take out of it.
I have a profound love for management games and maid cafes, so it is incredibly disappointing that the game fumbles both, and it feels more like a rough skeleton of what the final product should be. Because as much as I seem to throw hate to this game I want it to be good and succeed, there is so much potential for this game to be good and its all so underutilized in something that as a game doesn’t go beyond something that you could find as a CS student first game or as the second place on a game jam, the game really needed some more time in the oven to get some actual mechanics.

All the negative reviews are from people who hate visual novels or are bored with anime tropes. I like visual novels and tropes so this gets a thumbs up

I bought the game, thinking it would be a management / life sim, but it is just a visual novel. Sadly not a very good one. First of all, you have zero choices you can make. Sometimes you can choose how to reply and depending on your reply, the other character will grow closer to you - whatever that means. There doesn't seem to be any romance - maybe there will be multiple endings depending on which girl you have the most affection for.

But what I really hate is that the story parts are small and interrupted by the "management" of the cafe. This is basically just a break from the story to waste your time. There is literal nothing to do. Everything is automatic. There is nothing to manage. You can't influence the menu, the decoration or anything at all. You sit there and have to watch. There aren't any mini games either. Like none. The only thing you can do is brew coffee but you only have to do like once every ingame week (after 3 hours I had to brew coffee twice and in both cases the game expects you to guess which coffee the customers wants and expects you to have bought the recipe before you open the cafe, which is super annoying. Basically it forces you to reload and replay the same day many times until you get it right).

Outside of the cafe there is nothing to do. At first I thought that the graphics are really nice and we can explore the city. There are so many shops and buildings you can enter. But none serve any purpose at all. Except the two bookstores where you can buy the recipes for coffee. But there are only like 6 different ones and as mentioned above, you only need it for special story segments. There are restaurants or arcade but you can not do anything there. Well in theory you can work at some restaurants to earn extra money - but for what purpose? You automatically make money every day anyway. There is literally no point and it just further wastes your time before you can get the next story bits.

There is an ingame clock but again, it doesn't really serve any purpose. The time doesn't pass unless you open the restaurant but as mentioned just now, there is no point in exploring the city anyway.

Other people mentioned the great voice over and amazing music. I am no expert on this. The japanese voices sound cute, the music is "ok" at best. Graphics are nice and you do get some "scenes" during the story section. Sadly it is presented as very pixelated small photo.

If you really adore visual novels and love the graphics you can buy it. Everyone else will be disappointed I think. Even for me, who loves some visual novels without gameplay (and some with gameplay like Ace Attorney for example) this game is sadly a disappointment. I was hoping for a bit more gameplay - let me really run a cafe. Or just get rid of it completely and let me enjoy the story. But right now, the games isn't either and running the cafe (which again is automatic and every day is the same) is just not fun.

No regrets with buying this day one, beautiful visuals (absolutely in love with the art style), amazing voice acting, the music, everything about it shows the love and care the developers put into the game. Only a few technical frustrations with the 'talk to shopkeepers to find info about Favna's pendant' main mission prompt not going away despite re-visiting every vendor on the map twice (wasted ~20 minutes), and not realizing for a while that I was just supposed to end the day after seeing the available shopkeeper dialogues even if the prompt didn't go away.

It's also not clear what the effects of the maids being tired are, or how you are supposed to remediate it in the early game. In general, the game would benefit from making mechanics more clear and expanding on explaining the cafe management a bit more.

Looking forward to continuing my play-through of this game!

Been feeling a bit burnt out from some action, horror, and just fast-paced games.
This gives me life.

It has the 'cute girls doing cute things' right. Music is a boop. Lots of familiar references.
DEFINITELY the voice acting really got me hooked.

I've decided to give this game a thumbs up, but with hesitation.
There are many things to like about this game, and I was drawn into it very quickly with it's gorgeous pixel art and fun otaku community that the characters live in. However, over time I found the game less charming.
While it is very pleasant on the eyes, the gameplay is relatively generic. The story isn't anything riveting, but if you are looking for something along the lines of a feel good anime, then this will bring you that comfort.
As I played more it also became apparent that the game is not really finished (most of the tips in the loading screens don't apply or aren't true in the current state), is a bit clunky (a lot of loading), with a lot of actions with zero consequences (I don't think fatigue has any effect on the cafe operation, and there are so many storefronts but for what purpose?).

If you are looking for a gorgeous feel-good game, you got it, but I do think this game could use some extra development to really make it shine, and I would look forward to that!

(Currently, there is a serious bug that prevents the player from progressing on the second day; stuck at 10AM and the game states the player needs to prep for work despite having just finished work)

This game has charm, and I say this as someone that visits Japan frequently (so there's a bit of bias).
To my knowledge, it's not a copy of a particular location (well, obviously, since it's an 8-bit game that's trying to pack different elements of Osaka), but feels more like different locations around Dotonbori/Nipponbashi, but honestly that's fine; it has enough references to make me go Pointing-Rick-Dalton-meme.

(Someone please let me know if in-game streets resemble the layout of real-life streets, because at the moment I'm not entirely sure)

What I like:
The heroines. Some may say they're trope-ish, but really, it's these kinds of game characters that are popular. It gives variety. It allows players to interact with a more colorful cast. It's different from just watching trope-ish characters in an anime.
The world feels alive; lots of movement from NPCs makes it feel like you're a part of the crowd.
Activities don't keep me anchored to one place to make me start to feel like it's a chore, and there's many side activities.
The manager part is not complex; it's simple enough to still be a game, something like VA-11 Hall-A. It's like going with the flow of events.
The references.
Chill music.
Also has kansaiben. 10/10 GOTY.

My main gripes really stem from quality of life issues:
No dialogue skip button (and needs to be different from the dialogue-initiation button).
Lots of loading screens (they're short, but you come across them frequently. Not sure if fixable).
Using controller doesn't make the mouse cursor go away.
Only left joystick controls selection in a UI, instead of both the D-Pad and left joystick.

So really, I overall like it, and I have faith that the game will improve.
I'm not done with a route, so I don't know what the endgame is like, but I'd really like a post-game session where you can just stick with your favorite character and just keep the game going without restarting. I'm not a particular fan of having progress resetted forcefully.

Bug at the very start of the game that won't let me progress, and it seems like I'm not the only one. Can't recommend at this stage.

While these mechanics serve as a backdrop to the story, players expecting a deep simulation might find them underwhelming.

Despite its strengths, the game suffers from technical shortcomings. Frequent loading screens disrupt the flow of exploration, and the absence of essential features like a dialogue backlog or skip function can make revisiting scenes or pursuing alternate endings frustrating. Additionally, controller support is inconsistent, with awkward menu navigation detracting from the overall polish.

This might be the first time I’ve truly smiled while playing a game on my Steam Deck. Everything is superb - the music, voice acting, and the pixel graphics. Highly recommended!
