What is the purpose in Survival

I started a game as survival instead of story (which I have finished). It seem I am in the same map area although I have no map. What is the goal here ? Is everything like the story except being without the story ?

Survival is where you build your own base and have fun. Absolutely have no goal at all.

if its like the 2D version, survival is like newgame +---same map, but things are in different places

Some gamers don't like or understand sandbox modes which is what Survival is. That's perfectly fine and their opinion. I happen to like them but I don't expect every player to.
