How is this Verified on Steam Deck???

I bought this game months ago, and was super excited for it. At the time, I think it was "Playable" or "Unknown," but I wanted to try on the Deck anyway. The controls just didn't translate, which made sense. A bummer, but it made sense.

Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw it had become verified! I've played so many games that were just "playable" and ran perfectly, so I thought they must have really put the work in. But despite saying "shows Steam Deck icons" and all the rest, the controls in-game only show key-board keys and the cursor aiming still doesn't click (feels like it should just be point in a direction rather than a distance?)

Am I missing something? Has anyone found a way to reliably and comfortably play this on the steam deck?
