I don't think you understand what they mean. Once you get up to like 2 rads or so (out of 15) you get hit with rad sickness or whatever which causes 2 stacks of bleed and damage and triggers very often. Now that rads are working properly and not reset when you extract, it's VERY easy to build up rads off the start just walking around towns etc.
It's nice because you can't just ignore rads and consume all the rotten food you want now, but it makes early/mid game before you get more rad protection much more difficult and feels a little overtuned.
What does balance in a different game have to do with this one and why should i care how stalker works?
As a new player, seeing the rad counter go all the way up to 15, you wouldn't expect to be crippled by repeated 2 stack bleeds and damage when you hit 2.5 rads that is a death sentence in early game.
Considering radiation WASN'T working properly prior to this patch because it was reset everytime you extracted, and most people just ignored it, i would say this is a prime time to actually get some feedback on how the mechanic is working now.
But yeah, i can see that beginners might be overwhelmed by it and dont know how to counter both. especially while they learn whats worth to pick up for money. because the doc and the barman are money sinks. If you dont know how to make money runs, you struggle money wise.
I am working on a tutorial guide here on steam and have to rewrite practically the whole section about radiation and medicine thanks to the update.
the game is basically focused on killing you any way possible
As for bleeding... I hate to be that guy, but like others have said, as you get more experienced in combat, you'll get hit less often. And if you learn to manage your radiation level, you won't suffer from any bleeding related to that, either. I usually only carry 1 stack of bandages and 1 stack of anti-rad pills, although after the first few hours, I've typically got enough resources and carrying capacity to bring 2 stacks of each on my raids.
The emphasis that I'm trying to get that is that it's just NOT FUN. If I wanted to play like a complete rat, then I'd just go play Tarkov. For what's ostensibly suppose to be a fun, casual 2D game, it's deliberately precarious for no other reason than to just inconvenience the character.
Since the community is so hell bent on just chastising anyone who doesn't want to completely bust their balls over wanting to get out of early game, then so be it. Devs got my 20 dollars. I'm the chump here.
That should help somewhat.
And i agree with BlueSpark: THIS is Tarkov and Stalkers singleplayer Top-Down Baby. it NEEDS to be difficult. thats the fun of that sort of game. its basically the shooter version of darksouls gameplay.
You see a Hunter and think "hey, this looks like an army guy" , come close and BANG, dead. You also cannot shoot everything on sight either, as the Green Soldiers and the Cool Dudes in the forest are actually friendly but they will riddle you with bullets if you attack. But you don't know that at first ! It's really trilling try to probe and figure out allies and enemies.
Kind of, I stopped dying when I started to keep myself hidden, listen and observe, checking what is dangerous or not, and is on my league, and actually let others fight for me if possible. So far I''m loving the experience. It's really a reminiscence of Stalker.
I would strongly suggest you invest in making an infirmary and getting medicine level 1, that way you can easily craft rad pills instead of having to buy them.
One thing I did notice this patch is that at least the way I see it they also decreased the chance of rad pills spawning in medical bags, and with the change of radiation not resetting, it has become a very real hazard, so now more than ever the infirmary is a very good module to install.
