Also, at some point, the inventory icons should get a comprehensive harmonization and revision. Right now they look like they're from about 11 different games, all of them as garish as an '80s music video.
Pick 3 guns from this list-
M700 Modern
N401
NC47 / ECM
ZZ Vel
Skop H
Wintar BK (edit: added to list)
Mod the above guns you picked with the best mods available.
Sell the rest, including any mods that you aren't going to fit to those three guns.
Convert all of your meds into the highest possible tiers.
Scrap all ammo except what you use in the above guns.
Only keep loot that is worth minimum $500 (or higher) on runs.
This should help reduce the inventory management a bit. I suffer with the same instincts, but if you do this, it will mean you can do more runs in the same time, have a freer stash, and if you only loot light-weight expensive stuff you'll have more stamina on runs too.
ive played for 40 hours and never sorted my stash
doesnt take long to find the few items i need, and everything else gets tracked so i dont have to look for it
In a game about looting, having to restrain yourself from doing it is a bit counter intuitive.
When factions get added properly I hope they add a "donation" box I can dump my excess into for some extra rep when the trader runs out of money.
Stash management really is a chore even mid game, if the stacks were the same as the trader inventories it would go a long way to keeping it neat too along with a sort button.
Maybe the intent of this game is NOT to collect and hoard megatons of crap you most likely never use?
Coupled with the RNG of item drops for jobs you can end up filling the storage quite fast just waiting for that one item for each job to hand it all in.
My suggestion is not to sweat it too much and sell as much as possible because you will eventually have more of everything than you can get.
My key observations:
1. Do not hoard meds - meds are plentiful and you can easily sustain yourself on basic medkits, bandagers and anti-rad pills. My guy has 85 HP at the end, which means there is little to no point to big medkits. Sell most of your looted meds and only keep few stacks of medkits, bandages and anti-rads. Once you get SEVA suit, you can dump anti-rads as well.
2. Dedicate 1 or 2 stashes to crafting materials - metal scraps, nails, screws, various tools. Just dump it there and refill it when you craft something.
3. Dedicate anotehr stash tab to quest times - same as above, just dump any quest items there. Be warned, items will be flagged as quest-related until you complete their quest even if you have already picked enough. Check how many items are needed and sell any excess.
It does make it far easier to manage... craft ammo, loot all sterile bandages and medkits, sell valuables once a day.
Stash management is a huge mess, exactly as in Tarkov. Zero Sievert just mimic Tarkov for "fun" effect while Tarkov's system was clearly designed to get more money from players who will want to buy higher versions of the game that come out with bigger stash and container.
My main reason for my suggestions was A) you will not need as much stuff later as it seems early in the game and B) vendors have limited credit and you wont be able to sell stuff you bring from raid. I'm at a point where I do not loot anything other than weapons from bosses, weapons that have new attachments and ammo/meds/consumables I immediately need. Once you are able to clear Mall, you do not even need to craft or buy ammo as you usually find enough to replenish your stock from weapon store.
