Which controller to pick for performance and quality?
I've been playing on Xbox Series X/S Controllers for many years now. And I've been thinking if I should switch to a PlayStation 5 Controller. However, trying to find a comparison on Google and YouTube, I still can't decide if a PS5 Controller would be worth it, just for Tekken 8 itself, as I'm playing many other games with a controller as well.

Does anyone have experiences with both Controllers by any chance? I've heard that the PS5 Controllers are missing features or something like that so I didn't want to risk it and get something I regret later.

Please let me know your opinion, any answer would help!

If you want to focus more on fighting games then I would recommend a leverless controller, like a hitbox

I've read from users that the PS5 Dual Sense starts off great but wears down quickly playing these fighting games. It's an expensive controller so I don't think it's worth the cost to keep replacing them. I think the PS4 dual shock is probably still the best available controller for fighting games, if Gamestop still offers that warranty to replace controllers I'd get one from them and just replace it every time it wears out. That's the pro strat people used to do back last gen. I've tried the Hori Octa but I returned it, it was an interesting idea but needs another revision.

So you think sticking to my Xbox ones are the better option overall? As I'm not using them for fighting games only.

If you really want a controller, Playstation 1 controller is actually the best for Tekken. If you find one... They were still building things to last at that time.

It is also good because you don't have the annoying sticks nearby that are useless in Tekken or the touchpad like on the PS4 one.

PS5 ones will die off sooner than Ps2, PS3 or even PS4 ones, because now they want you to buy a new one every 2 years or so. They build them weaker and probably with cheaper materials on purpose.

Otherwise if it is just for Tekken and you are not afraid to have to relearn everything for some time until you get used to it, you can get a hitbox or something similar.

amazon has tons of under $100 leverless boxes that work as good as anything else. just double check the SOCD protocol whenever you use a box.

I would say the PS controllers are better than the xbox controllers for fighting games but it's doable on the xbox controller too. The PS controllers(either of them) are great for other games too of course. The only funky thing about using PS controllers on PC is outside of Steam the Windows support is usually non existent and you'll need to use another program called DS4Windows to make it work. That was my experience using the DS4 on PC, I mainly use an xbox controller to play stuff like platformers or driving games on PC. I think for a fighting game, you'd want to play wired controller to reduce input latency anyway, I think the PS controller works when plugged via usb. Just do yourself a favor and try to avoid using bluetooth.

If you don't want to spend money and you're on PC, you can learn keyboard. It's sort of the same thing as a hitbox. There are cheap hitbox knockoffs and sticks you can investigate as well. The main thing about tekken is movement is key, and Korean backdash is much easier on leverless controllers or keyboard than a controller. Any other game I'd just say stick with a controller.

I can't say what you should do exactly, but I am the type to try everything and see for myself.

the dualsense "ps5 controller" it's more competitive, the polling rate HZ is up to 1000, compared to 125hz stock of the xbox controller, it means in a sec, it detects 1000 times more inputs over the xbox controller.
point 2, if u play at night and u dont want to be annoying with the noise, the dpad and buttons of the dual sense is much more silent.
point 3, lots of games uses the dualsense tech (adaptative triggers, gyro, touch screen, inbuilt speaker) for the price u get a controller with tons of features compared to the xbox controller.

rn Im using a series controller for tekken too, but been doing research and seems like the playstation controller is a solid alternative for PC users.

I am in the same postion as you, i started to play with my series x controller, but was not that happy about it.
Then i tried out leverless, but it just feels "wrong" to me XD
Next up was arcade stick, got myself an 8bitdo wireless stick.
It is awesome! But unfortunately i get wrist pain in my right hand (my right hand is a bit messep up after 2 surgeries i had)
Finally i settled with a ps5 controller i got for a good price on amazon.
It is different to the series x in the way that it is less clicky on the d pad and the buttons on the right have a smaller profile.
The triggers are smoother. Personally i also like the grip better, but that will vary from person to person.
Only thing i dislike, also on the ps4 pad, are the sticks.
But since i dont need them for tekkeni dont care much.
I dont think it will make much of a difference what controller you use, some might prefeer the clicky feedback of the series x. The dpad on ps5 may be a bnit kmore mushy but easier to press and to glide on.

If you have the opportunity to try it, get an arcade stick, its a lot of fun to use!
If u are all about compettive and perfect execution then leverless should be the way to go.
But i think it takes a lot of practice to get the inputs correctly.
And also there are quiet some videos on youtube comparing different input methods, you could also look into that!

DS4
DS5 but you want the new model with an A, as the og models have drift issues.

If a tournament player is using a controller it’s usually a PS5 one.

Anakin is playing on a Dual Sense.
The best SF6 players also play on it: Punk and MenaRD.

I think both are good for fighting (ps5 and xbox) games but it’s good to have both for PC. Dual Sense have additional functions like touchpad, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speakers, mic. Some of the newest single player games use these features.

there is rumor that Microsoft will adopt haptics but the feel and .. the Xbox dpad .. I'd rather go for a 80$ PS6 controller and wait for PC drivers.. Its just that good

So guys, which one is better for Tekken, PS4 or XBOX Series S controller? I know for a fact that PS5 has bad dpad for fighting game. And whatever you do, don't buy hori. I got Tekken 8 edition and it's good for everything but fighting games. I played on my friend's PS4 controller and I like it, but I am not sure should I give a try to XBOX series S controller since I never played on it, but the people on the internet say that XBOX controller has better DPAD than PS4 gamepad...

This can’t be a fact when it’s a matter of preference. Some of the best players in the world use this controller.

A lot of players also use arcade sticks. It's more a matter of a habit/nostalgia.
