Can only play online with vpn. Help!

So 10 months ago I had the same problem with tekken 8 were i spent 2 weeks basically trying to trouble shoot the server communication error that made that I couldn't play online. I managed to fix it by removing the launcher and paks folder (1.5 gb) and using the steam verifier but, now that I reinstalled the game after I got a new gpu the same error occurs and deleting the folder doesnt fix it anymore. When I put a vpn the online works Normally. Anyone knows why? It's mind blowing, 10 months and these guys didn't basically Fixed anything.

Yeah the firewall and the router reset thing didn't work, I will try then the Cloudfare's WARP or the dmz thing and talk to bandai again...

Ok I managed to find and fix the problem for me.
Whenever I connect to NordVPN once, it changes DNS settings is some kind of way.
So what I did is close NordVPN connection, open up command prompt and type in: ipconfig /flushdns
Afterwards started Tekken and it works now. I gotta do this everytime I have started NordVPN services.

This is what is happining for you guys it says server communication error, so I can't even enter the online that is why I higly doubt that it has to do with player count I can't even acess with through the menu. If I use a vpn it works but it is a free vpn so of course I not going to play with 200 ping but without vpn I can't even acess the online this is the problem.

sure you didn't block tekken in windows firewall by accident. Also got to remember this is a p2p game so if your internet provider blocks outgoing connections ect its going to make things much more difficult. I would try re-downloading entire game - allow game in windows firewall - Port forward tekken 8 in the router. Enable UPNP in router - Change NAT type in router if you are able to - Set the firewall in the router to the least restrictive settings.

causes delay issues by use of 3rd party . similar to downloading while on ranked .

Somehow it only fixes if you disable and re-enable the network adapter every time. Using a de-bloated Windows version called AtlasOS actually completely got rid of this issue, assuming it's the same as the one you have.

Steam OS3 isn't far, windows vs Linux 2025.. I'm certainly not updating to win 11 ..

After some time FOUND THE SOLUTION AGAIN GUYS(At least for now LOL)!!!. I changed The dns to 1.1.1.1 and it worked. I used the 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 and nothing the 1.1.1.1 worked NICE!!!!! But my review of the game will stay negative LOL. But I'm grateful.

thats not a tekken problem, is your ISP being bad.
u should get another ISP for playing tekken, also there's better gaming DNS over google dns.

thats not a tekken problem, is your ISP being bad.

Makes kinda sense but, getting a whole other isp just for tekken when this one has good price, 1 gb connection and works in EVERY GAME but tekken, seems more like a tekken issue to me. What other DNS would you recommend? Thanks for the insight.

I would just find out if the router has a overly secure firewall or some kind of VPN package more likely its a obnoxious security setting intended for a business and its on by default.

I'd just use another router to bridge and bypass all that bloatware on the main router cause it sounds like your NAT is High.
