A healthy mindset
You need to have your own back in a game this. A game where there is so much to learn and understand. Hundreds of moves and dozens of options to deal with them. Take it one move at a time, one game at a time. Most of the frustration in the community is rooted in a lack of knowledge rather than a lack of ability. If you know what you're supposed to do to beat an option, don't worry about whether or not you actually do it. Mentally reassure and ground yourself in understanding. If you're not at the level to do it, don't be angry about it. If you know what you are supposed to do, and you keep practicing, you will be able to do it eventually. No matter what it is that you are trying to do.

A cool quote from a cool book called The Inner Game of Tennis:

"When we plant a rose seed in the earth, we notice that it is small, but we do not criticize it as "rootless and stemless." We treat it as a seed, giving it the water and nourishment required of a seed. When it first shoots up out of the earth, we don't condemn it as immature and underdeveloped; nor do we criticize the buds for not being open when they appear. We stand in wonder at the process taking place and give the plant the care it needs at each stage of its development. The rose is a rose from the time it is a seed to the time it dies. Within it, at all times, it contains its whole potential. It seems to be constantly in the process of change; yet at each state, at each moment, it is perfectly all right as it is."

That's all, I was just feeling good and wanted to share :winter2019coolyul: :yeah_tk:

Thanks for sharing. That was a really nice quote too. I'll always agree to the whole healthy mindset learn from your mistakes thing. I just wish I could feel that way. Losing is so frustrating and demoralizing and I never really see results that imply I improved. If anything I just keep losing and it depresses me a lot. Still competitive gaming communities can always use some motivational stuff now and then. Hopefully a lot of folks read what you said as it was quite nice.

Oh I'm glad you liked it, and yeah that quote is so good I love it. But I wanted to say this is not at all something I've mastered, I too get extremely frustrated and upset, especially when fighting "annoying characters". I just came to this earlier in the shower after I tried to analyze why I was so angry and frustrated. At the end of the day its only because I don't understand whats happening rather than it actually being "annoying" or "cheap"

Just remember that you don’t have to look at the big picture to see improvement. A simple “hey, I remembered to use that one punish I learned there!” Is a tiny victory in itself. At the beginner level, it should be about mashing buttons to win, but to understand WHY you’re winning or losing games. And being aware that losing is a much greater teacher than winning as a beginner in these games is a valuable lesson. We all get frustrated, but the improvement will come if you are patient with yourself and persistent with wanting to improve.

I don't even know if Steam forums work this way, but I'm bumping this as I saw some folks that I think would find it a good read

crazy how this mentality applies to so many aspects of life but your average tekken masher does not wish to evolve brother, they only wish to mash buttons and watch stuff happen on screen

gamers needa do better lol
