King needs to be nerfed. Straight up.
This guy was broken in Tekken 2. Or maybe it was Tekken 3. But he is as broken as ever in Tekken 8. He has:
1. The mobility of Ling
2. The counters of Asuka
3. The power of Paul
4. The throw chains that are impossible to break free from
5. Most of his moves are plus on block
6. His rising knee hits mid AND low for some dumb ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason, and can juggle off of a ground opponent, or just after wake up, which is exactly what Kazuya got lambasted for in Tekken 2.
7. His hell sweep is unreactable, and unless you have the reflexes of a cat, you're more than likely getting hit when you miss the low block/parry
8. All of his moves can juggle off one another
Basically, King has a move for LITERALLY every situation. At the very least, if you main King, I have no respect for you. Absolutely NONE.

There needs to be a way to see what character you're going up against before you join the match in Ranked. Every time I come across a King player, the aneurysm in my brain gets a little bigger. Cheapest, OONGA BOONGA, "I win" button if ever I've seen one.

I feel this even tho i can break his throws, its sometimes mind breaking to see what kind of silly attacks he does for such a Low skill and massiv damage output just by Using 34 haha

Wait, king has hellsweep? Since when?

Nah I think the devs think it is perfect okay that King's Heat is on par if not better than the vast majority of the most obnoxious V Triggers in SFV and you will have to deal with the free mixups and constant pressure he gets during it for each and every single round you play against him. Same with Dragonuv and DJ. You can really tell which characters the devs wanted to force shove the new Heat mechanic down people's throats as those are the characters they went out of their way to make as oppressive and miserable to play against as possible.

1. Absolutely he does not have that kind of mobility.
2. They're no where near as good as Asuka's as they require stricter timing (can't be ehld) and he can't parry left punches at all.
3. Yeah he can hit hard, but I don't think he stands out. I think it's more some characters lack damage compared to the rest of the cast, but King is sitting on fine damage.
4. That's a bug that should hopefully be fixed soon, you can normally always break chain throws. But yeah, nasty bug on them right now that is incredibly abusable.
5. They most definitely are not. u1+2, ffn1+2 and chest bump are, but I can bet the vast, vast majority of what you see King throw out is not plus on block.
6. Most hopkicks in the game can do that. They will also launch a ground opponents wakeup just like King's hopknee.
7. By hellsweep you mean his FC df1 punch? Absolutely it's reactable. It's way slower then an actual hellsweep, more comparable to a snakeedge.
8. This has always been a good strength of King, moves like df4,3 and f3 are fantastic to pick a juggle and turn into a combo. But again, this isn't super unique to King, lots of characters can do this.

What I will say, is that i don't think he needs to go into jaguar run after a block heatsmash. Hell, he doesn't even need the two hits of it, could just be one hit that's plus on block so it's more like other heat smashes.
Still not as busted as Tekken 1 king where his d1 was +24 ON BLOCK which meant it was a guaranteed followup launch lel

Throw chain being unbreakable is actually a bug.

You're right yet you're standing on a soap box regardless by explaining all of this. OP couldn't have made it more obvious he just got perfected by a King in ranked.
Paff Feb 19, 2024 @ 8:43pm
He is counter able... Tho what I don't get is why a character that prefer a close (range 0-1) fight also somehow have a range 2.5 move, fast hop kick (though this one is understandable considering his throw mind game),

Its kind of similar to why the give kazuya a ff2 when he already have his ff3 mindgame.. Feels like they want to give everything to everyone...

the counter is to block king mains after the match, that's the counter lol

Just spam the down input all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. It's basically OP against King lmao
Catpuppy Feb 20, 2024 @ 1:30am
While I personally don't really like that King is the only character that basically requires labbing his throws to counter, I think he's fine, and he's been a staple in Tekken forever. It would be nice to have other grappler characters, though, since King being the only one makes everyone who wants to play a grappler forced to play him.

However, I don't really know why his heat smash does significantly more damage than anyone else? (His heat smash is either 10 or 11 damage above everyone, which is huge)
HeLLFiREGM Feb 20, 2024 @ 2:16am
just train more.
Pasta Feb 20, 2024 @ 2:30am
Even without any grabs, King still looks like a complete character.
Souico Feb 20, 2024 @ 6:02am
t8 king is still t7 king, he has no new moves outside running jaguar. the only thing thats new with him is ffn2 buff and counter hit throws. his mids arent threatening enough, you can dickjab him after every mid, itll beat every grab option he goes for.
