Block sometimes not working when backdashing?
I was under the impression that backdashing was safe in this game (regular backdash) and you auto guarded even during those brief frames when you're tapping backwards, but I regularly keep getting hit out of backdash even though I'm not pressing any other buttons than back. Playing with a keyboard so it's not an accidental dpad/stick input.

Who knows. The game is a mess now. Tracking is broken, blocking is broken, balance is broken, etc.

backdashing is not safe unless you cancel it.

How wrong you are.

As for OP, here are some Answers from the Tekken Pros
"You're safe when you're backdashing, you just have to press back, back and hold the second back. if you're back dash canceling make sure you're pressing the correct inputs."

"The only time you can get hit by a mid when backdashing more specifically KBD (korean backdashing) is if you're still in "crouching" state or you aren't holding back. "Neutral blocking" (when you don't hold back) doesn't block all moves you can check this in practice mode try doing a string or df1 (hit) into jab (stand block)."

"Whenever you are not holding back and you are not doing a move then you are auto blocking. Auto blocking will not block everything. For example certain strings will still hit you. Crouching block by inputing down instead of down back also does this. As someone else said, when you do back, back to backdash once, if you are not holding the second back or pressing the second back fast enough you can get caught in any moves that the auto block do not normally block.

If you are Koreans backdashing there is the added inconvenience of being forced to be in a crouched stance for at least one frame(If executed perfectly)so, during that time you might get hit by a mid and not be able to block it. That frame will block any low if you are doing the correct kbd input though so its not all that bad. Also the same as above applies if you are not holding back/doing your inputs correctly or fast enough. KBD does not make you immune to everything especially if you have sloppy execution so if you think you wont have time or enough space to evade with a kbd then make sure to hold back before you get hit."

Like I said, broken.

Its not, its been a thing discovered by Tekken players in Tekken Tag Tournament.

I can't even side-step, sometimes. Game thinks I'm either jumping or t-baggin'.

might be a controller thing? tapping slightly forward or backwards with up makes you jump

Then you are in backdash - you cannot block. To stop moving and start blocking - tap down while backdashing - and then start blocking.
You can cancel any movement by short duck and duck by any dash or sidestep.
Sidestepping in Tekken is... difficult. You need to know where and then you can step - or you will be hitted.

It's not safe because you aren't holding back the entire time. so there is windows where you will be hit, it's evasion not Total defence.
i see alot of poeple hold block button i know it fighting but just hold .

Yeah, this is how I thought it worked as well. It's honestly the main reason I'm not trying to KBD, and just regular back dash. I guess my error might be trying to do multiple backdashes in a row and not holding the second input, so I get hit out of the dash.
nah even if u hold b sometimes u'd get clipped. game is in a pretty wonky state rn
