I started undervolting my GPU recently due to my PC hard-resetting (no BSOD) under heavy load. I also double down by using DLSS performance and high settings in Tekken 8 (3060ti) so the game shouldn’t be overwhelming my components. I did read somewhere that UE Polaris crashes can point towards a deeper underlying hardware issue because Tekken 8 in particular is very sensitive/intolerant of faulty hardware.
- make sure to turn off all background apps. Including msi afterburner, discord, chrome, antivirus, nvidia app etc.
- reinstall the game
- turn off xmp/expo in bios
If nothing works consider reinstalling Windows. It can get corrupted and less stable. Tons of people with RTX 30 cards are able to run the game stable so the problem should be solvable.
After nearly uninstalling the game in frustration, I stumbled upon a video from some dude with the thickest Hindi accent imaginable. He suggested four different methods to fix the UE POLARIS crash, three of which I had already tried with no success.
So I went back to square one, meaning removing Windows 8 compatibility mode, removing -sm5 from the launch options. I still made both exes run as administrator because why not.
There was one method that I hadn’t tried yet, which was going into Windows Security > Firewall and network protection > allow an app through firewall > change settings > allow another app > add BOTH Tekken .exes (Polaris-Win64-Shipping.exe AND TEKKEN8.exe) > check the box for both PRIVATE and PUBLIC. Then apply.
I can’t say I’m completely crash-free after this, but I was able to play uninterrupted for hours after doing the firewall stuff. It also had the knock-on effect of less stuttering (for example the character selection screen became much less unbearable because it used to microfreeze every time a character model was loaded in.)
I’ll come back here and post if I experience another UE Polaris crash, but I’m hopeful that this was the fix I needed all along. Let me know if this did the trick for you.
good stuff, thanks for sharing
no just the built in Windows Defender. I usually turn off real-time protection and all the extra crap because i don't want it to hog any resources
yeah, UE polaris still. i miss the first couple months after release where I could play this game without a ticking time bomb basically hovering above my head and making me look like a plugger...
