Prowess based matchmaking. You earn prowess by increasing stats (doing certain actions), it doesn't matter if you win or lose.
Your prowess is probably too high for your rank. Welcome to Harada's Tekken.

Could be many things, but chances are it's a bug that's been there since Tekken 7 (at least). It got particulalry bad since the matchmaking update. If you're searching, and it finds an opponent, but every time it says connection did not meet standards, this is probably it

Usually you can fix it by either disabling then enabling matchmaking, or exiting to the main menu and going into matchmaking again. Tho this also stopped being reliable after the patch. What worked best for me is disabling crossplay

I normally do this when this happens but as of lately this seems to kind of only work half of the time. I fight 1 person & I have to do this all over again & hope I get someone.

Your prowess is too high. Since april 16's patch, matchmaking is now based on Prowess, so if you've ranked up other characters your Prowess is too high for your rank and now you're stuck in limbo. Welcome to the club.

Stuck in limbo is correct. I can no longer progress through the ranks as I am getting stomped by Tekken GoDs on their 30th character. I decided when I first got this game that I would take 10 characters to blue ranks. I did that within a few weeks. Then the change happened to ranked and now I am paying the price for having a high prowess only because I use several characters. The game thinks I am just as good as a Tekken GoD and no matter what I put in my preferences for ranked, I will always get matched up against the ultimate sweats with no chance of winning. Sure, it's probably making me a better player, but it's still a bit demoralizing when you can't really see the progress based on your rank.

Yes the prowess system got broken and they made a post on twitter referencing it that I thought was the acknowledgement they messed up, but I think i've realized now it was just admitting they changed it to what it is now.

Namco seem to be on a crusade to destroy this game.
