Predicting Throws
Something I'm struggling to retrain my 2D fighter brain on is throws. I don't mean the way they're broken in Tekken, but I mean the situations in which people would even use them. Is it better to simply go for break on reaction in Tekken? I don't have the fastest reactions, so if I don't know a throw is coming it almost always blows me up. I got my main to Mighty Ruler, but I can tell I'll get hardstuck if I don't finally learn this part of the system better.

I want to understand the situations that might make someone go for a grab in the first place, but there's so much to learn that I have no idea where to even start. Aside from the obvious ones, like blocking too much or fighting King, of course.

Throws in tekken 8 is fully reactable u dont gotta guess when a throw a is happening u should be able to react to it and break it when it happens

If u want a more visual explanation u could try this video

Or any other video out there on this subject
Reacting to throws is one thing, your muscle memory is another. For example, my reaction time is above average but I still got hit by a lot of throws at first because I was not familiar with the animation, it just takes time to get used to them. Now I block like 80-90% of all throws simply because the moment my brain sees the animation it defaults to breaking it. Just like Jin's infamous D2, at first I lost a few games to it, but now I block it like 99% of the time on reaction because of how many players spammed it which caused the animation to become way too obvious. On the other hand, if a Xiaoyu uses a snake edge on me, I will get hit by it at least like 30-40% of the time because I encounter the move once in 200 rounds.

So the solution is to open practice mode and set the CPU to use a few throws. At first you will be confused and you'll get thrown thinking about the break, but with the time it will just become muscle memory and you'll be able to apply it in actual games
