On the fence about getting this game
Okay, I’m sure you’ve all noticed the recent “Mostly Negative” reviews on Steam. I’ve read them and I can honestly say that I’m now on the fence about Tekken 8.

I was actually saving up to get Tekken 8, since I’m a huge fan of Tekken since the 3rd entry and Tekken Tag Tournament 1. I couldn’t afford to pre-order it at the time, but I did get to try one of the open betas & the demo. While I’m very mixed on the complicated Heat system since it makes you learn new additional moves & re-learn each character over again (which is how the SoulCalibur franchise somewhat died), it was still Tekken to me.

However, with the increasingly negative reception (after launch, mind you) regarding unbalanced gameplay, unnecessary in-game micro-transaction shops + battle passes, DMCA takedowns of modders who make better costumes that said in-game micro-transaction shops, a possibly toxic fanbase, and Eddy Gordo’s DEI/SJW/Woke hairstyle according to one Steam reviewer, I don’t know if I should give Harada & Bandai Namco my money (especially since there’s a sale going on right now) and go back to Tekken 7 or the previous games until they start pivoting and make some serious changes to the game such as getting rid of the Heat System (or give it a major overhaul), get rid of the in-game micro-transactions and give us the content for free, and fix the game overall. Or just wait for Tekken 8: Dark Resurrection/Fated Retribution or whatever they call the “upgraded” version of this game with all the issues addressed & fixed.

On a side note, I think it’s wise to note that Bandai Namco implementing micro-transactions & battle passes into the game post-launch, especially after all the positive reviews, may be considered an illegal scam and has the potential for lawsuits. Feel free to disagree with me on this one, but that’s just how I feel about it.

Understandable.

I personally bought the game after the MTX fiasco, so I knew what I got into, however, I wasn't ready for that barrage of beginner Eddys during the pre-release. Fortunately they fixed that, but DLC characters basically started at the lowest rank and playing against a Tekken God player who uses a character you don't know wasn't fun.

The main question is whether you're more inclined towards offline or online play. Offline (various modes and playing with friends) is completely fine. For online, and specifically ranked, you can play just a single character, else your prowess will get too high and you will be matched against people beyond your league.

I’m the kind of gamer who likes a mix of both offline & online play. I usually play as Yoshimitsu since he’s both my favourite Tekken character & my main since Tekken 3.

Can you progress the battle piss via solo play or it has to be done against real players

You play Yoshimitsu ?... You can buy the game. You'll have your fun with him in any mode. The best is to play online with friends. But if you lab him a little, you won't have problem with him in ranked. Yoshimitsu has everything needed to fight any situation and characters in Tekken 8.
About the situation of the game, perhaps wait still the end of EVO Japan. Big changes will start after it and surely we will get a balance patch soon.

I’ll be having fun with Yoshimitsu anyways. It’s just all the problems with the game that’s putting me off from buying the game, post-launch micro transactions included.

If you are fan of Tekken definitely buy it and don't listen for crybabies that blame game for having MORE payed content.

There are issues that worth addressing, but this is in no way worse than any Tekken before it.

Bumping this because I still can’t decide whether to get this game or just wait for a 50% discount on the Ultimate Edition or Bandai Namco pivots & gets rid of the battle passes & micro-transactions as well as a public apology to fans. Or just get Mortal Kombat 1(2).

I would not recommend purchasing Tekken 8.

Edit: Unless you just play offline.

Well, I would still play offline either way. Is the online THAT bad?
