How to learn fundamentals in Tekken?
Stuck between 2 mains in tekken which is LiLi and Jun but one thing I want is to be a fundamentally strong player. Wondering how I do this since I don't even know what the fundamentals of tekken are lol.

Fundamentals are the basic Tekken skills common to all characters to perform well, like blocking, punishing, spacing, stepping and breaking throws.

The only way to get better at them is to get experience playing the game and spending a lot of time in practice mode as far as I know.

Through fighting experience you will get better matchup knowledge to make better reads and deepen your knowledge of the frames data, you will also adapt quicker to different player styles and get more proficient with execution in addition to improving your fundamentals.

Some general tips:

1. Learn how to bait out whiffs with movement, threatening an attack but then quickly backdashing out of range for your opponent’s response to whiff.

2. Condition your opponent not to duck with safe mids and surprise them with a low.

3. Make the most out of every launch opportunity with a reliable combo.

4. When you do not know the correct punish for an unsafe move, do your ten frame punish.

5. Mix up the timing of when you attack to throw off your opponent’s defense and open them up for counterhit launchers.

in this clownshow of a game? learn to be as oppresive as possible ..thats it.

in case you want to play tekken7 its important to learn how to whiffpunish stuff, being mobile, sidesteps and walks to avoid attacks. being patient and not just press buttons while you either wait for your opening or in case your char has good mixups using them to open your opponent up.

Yes, in fact I've figured out that this game rewards patience more than anything, the more aggressive you are the more likely you are to being punished and having your turn taking and at worse getting put in a combo. The beauty of Tekken is that there is always something you can do even against the top tiers. The only real flaw with the top tiers is that they either have not much or to little counter play or they're just flat out really good at everything. I'll make an example when I was starting out with Jun I often did stuff like 1 2 2 or up 2 side 3 etc etc but then I started getting countered like my opponents ducking 1 2 2 or hitting me during my sidestep animation so I had to adjust my gameplan instead of waiting for an opening and being aggressive since that's the only way I knew how to play. I'll just be very patient and use mostly mids, lows, and pokes. I also noticed that this is how most Jun plays to since a lot of her stances besides GEN can be countered against heavy.

Tekken is a juggling game, so the fundament is juggling. So the best way to get results is to make sure you know the high dmg juggles and can execute them with regularity.

Unless you play against a normal person who is almost never at -15 and starting a juggle is a big challenge out of itself.

But by the time you reach that point your juggles should already be rock solid. So they're still the fundamental skill.
