All good SSD's have a 512mb-1gb dram cache even hard drives have a 128-256mb one.
ssd is super necessary
The loading time could be much longer, but the performance during the acutal gameplay is for games like this almost unrelated to your drive and just depending on your cpu, gpu and memory.
During the game you should check your systemtemps e.g. with hwmonitor,
It's more likely your system gets hot as that your ssd could be a bottleneck.
But if you want to check your ssd you can do this e.g. by using crystaldiskmark and compare the results to the datasheet of your ssd
caused my game to not even start up after they patched it
The best you can do if a game or actually any software is´n't working after an patch is to delete your configs.
These configs are in most cases not saved on your gaming hdd but on the system ssd
(like this: C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\TEKKEN 8)
That's also why it worked when you changed your install drive, as the configs need to be written again to point to this new drive.
That's also the reason why a simple uninstall often didn't fix any issue. These config files are not installed with the game but created from the game at first start so they won't be deleted if you uninstall the game.
About game load, is way faster when you play with a PC player, if you play with a console one it takes more time to load. But the load times is way lower than Tekken 7 and Street Fighter 6.
Just like with every computer component and peripheral you have;
Low-cost
Standard
Performance
High-Performance
Your SSD will only be designed for bog standard tasks. SSD's are sort of dated now when it comes to gaming. Its actually the NVMe drives or PCI-E SSD's because they have huge data transfer and read/write speeds.
Everything works together obviously. Your CPU will fetch Tekken data and store it in RAM. If you are lacking in RAM your CPU will create virtual RAM and try step in for the lack of RAM but this might bottle neck other things, it will hold up your GPU too. Everything has got to work together and its got to cost a similar price.
Dont buy something top of the line and then something from the bottom. Its like getting a real nice engine for a car but bad tyres or exhaust etc
I propped my laptop up then ran the game and it didn't crap out this time but the GPU was also sitting around 40-65% use in-game and was at a blistering 85 degrees even after being propped up so...*shrug*
Never had an issue with this thing going so hard before (it's an RTX 3070 laptop GPU so it shouldn't be absolutely crushed by this game). I'll have to do some more continued testing.
