The rank system is terrible compared to Tekken 7
In Tekken 7 reaching red ranks was very impressive, but in Tekken 8 with the fact that you don't loose points till Warrior combined with the option to use special style anyone can make it to Warrior. You can even see people playing on Garyu with special style and no defense. After a while there will barely be any players under yellow ranks and this will ruin the experience for beginners. In Tekken 7 I encountered an Eddy player with over 700 wins and he was still in light blue ranks, and many people were stuck on green ranks. This is something that will never happen in Tekken 8 cause the ranking system is a chaos.

Reaching Red ranks in Tekken wasn't impressive unless you did it in season 1.

In season 5, if you reached Red ranks, you weren't even in the top 50% of players. You barely got to be in the top 50% close to Ruler ranks.

There is nothing impressive about reaching high ranks in T7 given that the game quite literally allowed you to modify your rank lmao and the insane rank inflation shows just that.

And it's going to be a similar story in T8 where you can just avoid ever losing points by leaving the match early.

I rlly don't understand why quitting isn't counted as a lose in Tekken.

Yea right, that's why a lot of competent players were stuck in green ranks in Tekken 7. Show evidence.

Competent and "green rank" aren't even something that should be in the same sentence, but sure, I actually can back up the claim with some stats:

Those are the stats at the end of season 4, we don't have newer than those, but it's easy to see the inflation going at a steady rate, so yea. Even if you just consider the stats at the end of Tekken 7 season 3, Red still isn't even top 50%, it's top 55%.

The majority of players are in orange and red ranks. High level is a tiny minority. When I say competent, I mean good offense. Only high level players have really good defense.

So to you, a "competent" player is just someone who knows how to mash some scrub killer setups, got it.

Having good offense is not just about mashing. Even a lot of good players on higher ranks struggle with defense, because defense in Tekken is harder than in any other fighting game.

Which means that learning offense is quite easy, so it's not something worth celebrating.
Its much easier to rank in T8.
Tekken 7 was much more hardcore at launch, it was not as friendly as this game. I remember pros taking like Long time reaching highest rank, it was much harder.

Red ranks here is what season 1 T7 Warrior rank was by skill pool
Season 1 Byakko was on a level of Raijin-Kishin in T8 currently, atleast it feels like it

On one hand you got a bunch on new casual players inflating rank quality which makes it easier to rank up against them, on the other the new system is geared towards new generation, and new generation needs insta-reward, easy execution and flashy ♥♥♥♥ going on.

So they made fundamental changes to the game and its much more casual. That is reflected in ranking over all and everything else.

Learning a lot of strings and combos aren't that easy. You have to know how and when to utilize them. Defense of course is harder but offense isn't easy on higher ranks.

Yea, offence isn't easy on higher ranks, but Green ranks isn't higher ranks, so they aren't competent players.

You can reach Blue ranks with some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ combos you learned from the Combo Challenge in the practice mode.

The only thing that balances this out a little bit is that there are far more experienced players in Tekken 8 than there was in Tekken 7 at the beginning.

Does it even matter how the ranks are called?
Reaching red is easy but reaching blue is very hard. Max rank is ultra rare and even many tournament level players can’t reach that.
