What makes Tekken 8 harder than Tekken 7?
I’ve been playing Tekken since Tekken 5:DR (and I played a demo of Tekken 2 technically).

Tekken 7 was the easiest Tekken has been for me even though I haven’t played much of it (I played a week or so when it came out on ps4 and I played it last year a bit). Now that Tekken 8 is here it’s even easier for me than 7. I’m surprised people are having a harder time. What’s going on?

Because people used to play stupid characters like Marduk who had busted rage drive and then you had 58 characters to lab so annoying characters like Lucky Chloe, Katarina got away with bs. Plus some rage drives were straight up unbalanced. 2D characters were busted too and carried a lot of players. The game in my opinion isn't harder. It's just people have to actually lab and understand how to fight against other characters now. And who wants to do that when they can play their character instead?

some ppl prefer mashing (Tekken 8), while others prefer more defensive play (Tekken 7)

Mash what? 2D crap. Yeah, mash what? Jin's broken parry? Or mash what? Magic 4's and B1's? Yeah, ok.

Well, I simplified a lot, tru, but it is what it is (doesnt mean everything in T7 was perfect)
Oh, also Tekken 7 required players to play reactive defense over proactive defense. What this means is, a lot of options in Tekken 7 were simply beaten by KBD. This is not the case anymore, and you have to actually know what character opponents do to win more frequently.

That is why characters like Zafina and Kunitmitsu were so strong. They simply controlled more space than other characters and dominated with their offensive and defensive capabilities and had generic tools to compete too.

I can actually believe people actually think Tekken 8 is harder. In my opinion, they have to actually play better that's what. Timing sidesteps and side-walking was atrocious in Tekken 7, but now it's actually useful in T8. But how many players actually know how to do it even with the buffed movement? Not much.

its the hardest. Its the easiest to pick up but the hardest to play real tekken. Sidestepping is harder because there are a lot of new tracking moves and heat engagers that track too well. Its hardest because every char has new ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

If it is your first or haven't tried tekken seriosly 'til now, I can see why people say is 'not that hard'. Game has never been this easy to pick up, but to get good is the hardest.

The bunga is just so strong. Too many strings have weird tracking issues (step first hit, second magically realigns), a lot of stuff is too safe, and at least for me, personally, it feels like the risk/reward ratio is off on a lot of stuff. Ie low risk, high reward. But that's just what it feels like to me as a sort of intermediate skill level player.

Which char are you using.
I've been maining Jin for 3 weeks.... he's fun to play.
As a former Asuka main it feels like a different game. I can punish everything effectively xD

For me T8 is way more difficult than T7 because they nerfed the hell out of Asuka and make a mediocre character into a nearly impossible to play competitive character

Theres more to keep track of because you have to consider your and the opponents heat. More combo possibilities with heat. And reads are more important because everyone gets 1-2 mixups on you per round.

That's just what got harder. There's a lot that got easier. If you mash random moves you have a much higher chance in Tekken 8 to be safe.

Yeah Asuka isn’t really scary. I’m surprised that Asuka players won’t just switch to Jun. She’s the original Kazama anyway.

If you guys think Tekken 8 is hard I wonder if you played Tekken Tag Tournament 2. That and T6 were the hardest for me (6 for a couple of reasons but mainly Lars). I couldn’t even make it out of the beginning blue ranks in TTT2. I loved the game still though.
TTT2 was my first online tekken experience.
I mained Asuka Jun xD
In T8 I find Jun kinda boring. She's so vanilla. That's why I picked Jin (the most vanilla protagonist xD).
His stance pressure is fun and his combos are stylish

I like the animations of tekken 8 a lot more, feel more realistic, and the graphics are top G.

I’ve been using Jin since T5:DR. I have mixed feelings about his new moves but at least he’s on par now with the rest of the goofy characters that fly around and whatnot.
Well he is even stronger now than in tekken 7 and quite accessible especially if you played him already in tekken 7 but if you pick weaker chars especially defensive ones this game shifts in difficulty as defensive options besides stepping got nerfed (heavy tracking in this game still kinda nerfs stepping)

Tekken 8 requires players to play defense in a different way than KBD into magic 4 and Tekken players hate that. 90% of T7 game play was running away, the remaining 10% was dudes getting demolished by a street fighter character and seething about it.

Harada cut out all the fat and left us with the seething part. What a man.

The "correct" way to play Lars is to always just do DF2 into SEN mixup, and whiff punish when the opportunity arises. There's literally no point in doing anything else, because it's such a strong and safe option. This is a much easier gameplan than Tekken 7's poking and stepping play.

I assume it's similar for other characters (most infamously Acuzena just doing her running thing) but Lars is the only one I have a comprehensive understanding of.

You also now have a very reliable "get off me!" tool with the heat smash. I feel like T8 is less difficult than 7 overall.
