The Skill Gap from Tenryu to Mighty Ruler has been insane
I main Yoshi and up to Tenryu I basically had no issues climbing ranks. As soon as I am in Tenryu, everyone I'm up against knows all my moves, knows which moves they can duck, etc. And if you lose to someone who's higher rank than you, you lose a LOT of rank which doesn't really make sense why you get punished so hard for losing to someone "better" than you.

Is this where I now just have to grind quick match for the next 300 hours learning what every character on the roster does? :theskull: There are definitely people who play easy/spammy characters to get to Ruler. There are Steves/Hworangs that just ride your a$$ the entire round, I guess that's just what they do?

Red ranks is basically what separates the boys from the men. Enjoy the curb stomping while you can.

Keep grinding bruv you got this! im yoshi main too just hit blue ranks with no easy way. Only way to get out of spam char is using grabs, flash NSS (SS flash is very weak but in some way is good now use like a parry not spamming), Yoshi have good tools to be tricky ss1,ss2 even ss4 counter hit//b3,b4 good to get out and punish someone//fly f1+2 godlike. Rest is just knowledge check and no you dont need to spam quick match red ranks are easy to get.

and good tip for you:
You have 2 rounds or bo3 to try to know what your enemy like to use/play. Everyone have smol flowchart like if he is ducking highs, breaking 1+2 grabs, like to use lows, like to stand up with 3+4 (ez flash) etc. try to adapt to player not character they are playing

yes go play quick match. I did that in T7 for like a year after I stuck at Raijin then when I came back I started my road to tgo journey
Feels frustrating that now I'm just supposed to go learn the entire roster, learn all the frame data in the game, just to move the needle into Purple. There was no gradual difficulty increase in opponents really. It was just Smooth sailing, evenly matched in Red Rank, then Tenryu is just hell.

I guess I can't return to Ranked for several hundred more hours then. Might as well start playing other characters because I'm getting tired of playing just one character exclusively

Dunno what youre talking about im flame ruler and I've no damn idea what yoshi does nor does it look like people know anything in general. Only thing that happens in purple ranks is people actually know combos and go full aggro whenever they can, defensively they're barely any bettert than reds. I'm assuming you need to go into tekken god territory for people to actually know some framedata on obscure characters like yoshi.

thats true even some blue ranks dont duck any high you throw even if you spam b2,2/3,1 but still you can find someone who does their homework and lab certain situations on replays and adapt

What the heckity heck are you talking about OP? The only thing you need to genuinely change is your timing. Honestly, keep doing what you were doing but focus on the "when" you're doing it. I bet you were just predictable, which I have to say is pretty bad for a Yoshi main.

Purple ranks has always been when you actually have to start playing real tekken and it only gets harder from there...

Going from say Garyu to Mighty Ruler, its like going from Brawler to Eliminator all over again in terms of skill increase.

I am MR right now and I had to stop playing to literally re-learn my character.
Keeping any habbits from T7 past that its just not possible. NOW you gonna actually learn to side step. If you used for example brain dead chains, block traps into a grab ect etc. Ruler Ranks are a hard check. All grabs start to be broken, most lows start to be punished and movement comes into play big time

I thought I was decent then matched with a few Fujins , and they used me, and touched me without my concent, in most perverted ways. Flamae Ruler and above has this noob X-Ray vision they can immediately tell if someone is pretending to be good then they just annihilate you. In my EXP and im a casula, just to be clear here

So yeah Tekken STARTS at Mighty Ruler. ranks before are like school and Ruler Ranks are like dipping your toes going out on your own into harsh world

The skill gap is huge between colours. And when you hit the Flame Rules you will start playing against Fujin what is like a different game.

Any any chance did you happen to reach this rank around the time the newest patch rolled out? Yoshi just received some noticeable nerfs so that likely is also contributing to you noticeably performing worse.

This is the first Tekken I've ever played seriously. I'm someone who much prefers Soul Calibur to Tekken for a laundry list of reasons.

However, nobody, including Namco, gives two shets about Soul Calibur, so if I want to play a 3D fighter at all, I have to play Tekken. The movement in Tekken is so awkward and clunky compared to Soul Calibur, which I'm not really used to. You can't SS toward the camera, which is also bizarre. There's also 100+ moves on most characters to learn, so learning the most common things people use on every single character on the roster is not something that happens after 1-2 matches.

I realistically wanted to hit Ruler and stop caring about rank for a while, play other characters, play more for my own enjoyment rather than sweating it out every single match and getting frustrated. However, seeing that I've hit the wall when I am so close to my goal is also frustrating because it feels like I should be only a few good matches away from hitting my goal, yet those few good matches seem nowhere to be found, as you're almost exclusively matched against people higher ranked than you in this game.
According to some people you just gotta mash harder. :steammocking:

nah I have been Tenryu for several days atp, the other ranks I mostly was able to breeze through without much issue. I definitely notice the nerf to his flash though.

I mained Ivy in recent SC for like a year and a half. Sc has more moves on average per character than Tekken, also has secret moves that arent in command list. Arguably SC is a faster and harder game, and more demanding on execution.

So really, coming off SC if you were actually decent at it Tekken should be much easier. I don't understand the logic
