After 76 Hours I Made It Into Orange Ranks (New Players Thoughts)
Tekken 8 has been an amazing experience from front to back. I have enjoyed pretty much every second of playing this game. Im new to fighters, having just started playing them consistently for the past year. Bounced off mk, bounced off sf6, bounced off GGST, not Tekken though.

I have not shied away from playing ranked. I have over 100 matches on Reina, and over 200 on Jun. However for the last solid 3 weeks I have been stuck in Dominator rank. Stuck in an endless cycle of promotion match losses to win streaks to get back to said promotion match I would lose. It was getting frustrating, especially with the amount of videos and comments I was seeing basically telling me to quit and if I wasn't finding success with my favorite character (Jun) to uninstall the game.

This sucked to hear as a new player. Ontop of that I had made the decision to buy myself a Leverless controller, a Haute42 G16. So I was basically starting from the beginning learning how to play and control my character while also hearing about how bad I was everywhere I looked.

I started playing fighting games because me and my friends love watching tournaments, hell we are all traveling to Evo this year. So we watched the sajam tournament. got inspired, grinded out about twenty matches. final 5 matches of the day, a 2-1 set W against a Destroyer Lili, and a 2-0 set W against a Assailant Law. These sets finally got me into Vanquisher orange rank after a solid 3 weeks of playing in just dominator rank.

It feels so freaking rewarding to go up a rank in Tekken, even more so as you move up a color set. Ive really enjoyed my time with Tekken, and I am looking forward to playing more.

Don't feel bad about lack of success in this title, Tekken 8 in its current state is basically RNG. Between bad character balance, allowed cheating, wonky hitboxes, weird netcode and bugged attacks. IMO its also one of the most complicated Tekkens, with attacks that randomly retrack onto opponents, counter hit throws, and everyone having tons of weird gimmicks and panic buttons, coming in as a new player has got to be more painful than in other Tekkens minus the learning tools. At the very least its pretty easy to eek out wins in the wild wild west hellscape though.

While I do believe time spent during this time will be helpful, currently I don't believe ranked is currently the most conclusive way to judge someone improvement or how good they are in general.

Also yes, you're playing the strongest character in the game, don't rage quit when they get nerfed; understand that this is going to happen.

Greetings! Very nice to hear that you are enjoying yourself. Jun and Reina are both very good balanced characters so feel free to ignore meanies on the Internet. Always glad to see more furries in the community, my best friend was one, may he rest in peace.

I can really relate. I'm learning how to play leverless on the exact same controller, and there's times I catch myself going "I could've had him if I was still using stick."

The best advice I have overall is give yourself some slack. You're new to this game with not even a hundred hours yet. Some people have been playing Tekken since 1994. Tekken is difficult to learn, too. I have thousands and thousands of hours of fighting game experience, and I'm still stuck in the middle of red ranks simply because Tekken is nothing like any of those games. I'm relearning my entire muscle memory for leverless on top of learning all the unique to Tekken mechanics on top of living the rest of my life.

Don't let people bother you about your character. No one at the ranks you (or myself) are playing at is good enough for tiers to actually matter. The people you fight who then complain you played Jun could not perform well enough with her to make her OP in the first place. If they could they wouldn't be sitting at orange ranks with you.

i'm new in fighting as well
I have now over 100+hours in tekken 8 and i got garyu on Devil Jin(thanks to my friends who told me how to play at least on the basic level)
And Jun is alright.I might got really hard time with her but that my problem) Everyone doing mistake and it's important to just realize them and start to punish at least.
Just play the game and have your fun):chivsalute::Fistofdosh:

Maybe if you’re intermediate yourself.

Jun is not the most OP character in the game.

Moves don’t randomly re-track. They get re-aligned by movement such as back or forward. (Some do but those are special cases)

Counter-hit throws exist because people mash into them. Gimmicks and panic options don’t win entire sets.

Nothing is close to a full RNG game as you think it is. If you’re below high blue, anyone, including a new player can enjoy Tekken 8 in its current state.

I have found myself leaning less into listening to every bit of advice or opinions given to me and try to treat this a a journey of the self. Little improvements made through practice, research, and time.

I'm going to play the characters I love, I'm going to keep practicing, and I'm not going to let anyone invalidate my experience because I'm not at a rank they deem "good".

I really just wanted to express how this experience has felt for me and share my excitement with others. Being new to fighters is hard, especially when you have ran through 6 fighters before tekken and didn't really enjoy them. I think people forget what it's like to be brand new to such a legacy fighter like tekken.

nice i am also in the same boat but i am learning lever it has been tough so i will be playing lever less as well from time to time but my main goal will be to get the hang of lever i will be experimenting in changing my sanwa into a 309 mj Korean st35 lever to see how it feels

Im in the same situation just a bit further (garyu as jin - about 50 h) but I really dunno about these "i could have won with a stick" at least at our elo every dude is spamming strings and just adapting to the opponent, I really dont feel like the excution (and so the need to change controllers) is the issue

I'm not too sure on who this is aimed at. I never claimed to have lost more matches because I switched to leverless. I spent basically a solid week in training mode getting comfortable with the new controller, make no mistake I lose because I'm worse than the other player, not because I switched my controller.

I liked reading this. Glad to hear you're having fun. I am, too. It's such an awesome game as is. I'm not gonna cry about nerfs needing to happen, etc. Just keep playing and learning, that's what it's all about.

The same thing, I play King because I really like hugging people to the bone crack. I often get my ass kicked in the rankings, but at the same time I try to learn something from it, I watch a lot of videos of pro players playing on my character and I learned a lot from them, but still when I play against real people my hands are shaking and my heart is pounding and I try to overcome it. I recently raised the rank of Dominator and realized how many different people play at the middle ranks, there are those who just choose braindead characters and cheese their opponents to death, there are veterans who beat people like me like a rag doll, etc. I just want to say that rank is not important, your personal skill is important, even if you are forever getting stuck on the orange and blue ranks doesn't mean anything. Just remember that the very fact that you have the desire to join the fighting game and their community already means something.

P.s All bltchhes will be yours just dont give up
