Haven't tried if you can roll over it or not but yeah Its either wake up and instantly get guard break or just lay down and accept the guaranteed.

If you wake up properly and backdash Pauls attack will whiff

Hold back to wakeup and depending on the spacing and your character's backdash you can backdash the 2nd hit. Otherwise you can hold back and interrupt with 11f iirc.

Hold B to wakeup quickly and backdash away. If you're close enough you can jab him to steal your turn
