Do you use a fight stick?
Thinking of picking one up, and what you guys suggest, or if I should just stick to my xbox controller.

Cant you rent one or have a friend lend you one

Alternatively, if you have one of those 1000 games in one arcade cabinets nearby, try playing tekken 3
Yes, I do.

Just one thing: A fight stick will not magically make you better at this or any other game.

It doesn't matter as much which one you use if it has Sanwa or Hayabusa parts it will be fine.
Hitboxes are more common these days. Might look that avenue less stress on your wrist.
if you just want to be more precise while keeping the same way of playing the game you could just get a different pad (the xbox dpad is small and placed awkardly, I find it gives a lot of misinputs) something like a ps4 pad or an 8bitdo or hori is way better.

If you want to try a fight stick because you think it's fun then it can be worth it, the only downside is that decent ones cost quite a bit.
Just remember it will take time to get used to any new controller, be it stick or hitbox.
I use an XBOX controller and I'm more than happy with it.
At the same time, I also played on arcades at one time and managed to try the stick. So if you've been playing on a Gamepad all your life, then stick won't open up new horizons for you and turn you into a fighting machine.Well, maybe it will, everything is individual. :tobdog:
Thanks for all the input. I figured it wouldnt make me a fighting game expert, just always had issues with combos in games like street fighter. If it makes deliberate inputs easier to practice and perfect then I’m sold. If not, I’ll just stick to the controller I suppose.

Yes! This! As a person who has some problems with wrist (huge pain after 40-50 mins playing fighting actively with gpad), I really recommend hitbox (:
Well, I actually don't have one yet - just ordered, but before placing an order I tried to play on keyboard (which I considered "stupid way to play fighting" all the time - oh these childish elitist's ways of thinking XD ) and suddenly - it felt SO GOOD - 1.5hrs rankeds non-stop and zero pain in the wrist :B1:
Waiting for delivery

Add: tried arcade stick some time ago - not an option. Not for me at least - using this stick demands way too much basic practice =_=

Give a shot to keyboard. Just for a little - maybe you'll like it and will consider buying hitbox later XD
It makes a lot of inputs much sharper than with gpad's dpad .-.
I recommend hitbox if you never picked up arcade stick before.. In my opinion there is no significant advantage of playing in arcade stick unless you are playing mishima maybe.. but if you can learn how to play mishima in hitbox, I think you are going to be more consistent there..
When I started in T7, I was using an XBone controller (because that's how you play fighters, right?), but when the piece of trash broke after less than a year, I had to switch to keyboard, and I instantly started improving (after learning new muscle memory, of course). Only issue is it's not very compatible with PS5, so I wanna build a leverless controller so I can go to offline meetups.

I maintain that pad is the worst method of input, so I'd recommend kb/leverless, or a stick, tho everything requires building a different skillset. But I really look back and scoff at all the lies that made me start on a controller. (OK sure, maybe if you didn't use a mechanical keyboard there were some issues, but if you have a proper keyboard, it knocks controllers out of the park. Nobody was saying "membrane keyboards are bad for fighters, tho)
Borrowed a stick from a friend a couple of years ago.
Been gathering dust on the top shelf ever since. Much more comfortable using a Playstation controller.
It's more of a cultural thing in Asian countries rather than something that you absolutely need to have in order to improve in Tekken. I'd argue it's more of a handicap if you're not used to it.
Also considering how much some of those suckers cost, it's really not worth it unless you've thoroughly figured yourself out some aspect of the game that a stick would improve.

Nope, they’re way more niche than sticks

Yeah but looks like it's shifting right now - sticks are going to museums and hitboxes are used by champions - that's what I see at least (with gpads as some median option)
If I'd get a new device, I'd also get a hitbox.

+1

It's a good thing you can test that with your keyboard. But some keyboards have ghosting, meaning you can't push 3 buttons or more together at the same time (the buttons won't register).

With the keyboard you don't have SOCD cleaning if you're not using some script. So, it can still make some things harder than they should be.
