$80 and it uses a Sanwa JLF lever like most other quality fight sticks

if you compare the two, it is the same thing just different branding. I have one, it does the job but it is not great, i'd rather play on my atrox 360.
This can be misleading. Most of the winners of these tournaments are players who play the game for years already. They have trained all these years on their input device (stick, pad), so, there's no reason for them to switch to a new device. It may even stunt their performance if doing so.
It does not necessarily say much about how good or bad hitboxes are. Thinking of pad players, people have said there's no chance with pad for years until some people proved them wrong.
If you're better with the hitbox and feel more comfortable doing all the moves and techs in the game, there's no reason why it can't be as good as a stick.
Another point, these devices all have pros and cons. Some things are easier to do on pad, some things are easier on a stick and other things may be easier on a hitbox. So, one could conclude that there's no absolute 'better' among those as long as the quality of the hardware is decent.
I will say that the best controller is the one you're most comfortable on, muscle memory trumps all.
BUT most pro Tekken players use an arcade stick. Close to 100% of Pakistan and Korea players at least.
I am not going to spend that much money on a stick or a hitbox for a single game. I already have a keyboard.
Theres no such thing as stress on your wrist on a fight stick.
I use a korean stick cause I find it more fun.
Hitbox is cheating.
I would say yes but prepared to put in the work to become proficient with it.
And as one guy on YT said - if you can use keybord properly, there won't be serious issues with transferrin to hitbox - totally agree with that, could switch to one in no time. Stick - from other side - didn't become comfortable even after a month of practice, just not my type of controller .-.
Cheating or not - I don't care 'cause:
1. Not gonna be a pro - just having fun in rankeds from time to time;
2. Pro-players already used it during EVO thus precedent is already had place - too late for banning this "cheating" (:
Not normal are the ones that let you press two opposite directions to make some moves easier.
Yeah, that are those without the SOCD cleaning. If your hitbox has that, you're good to go.
Edit:
After testing a bit, it seems Tekken 8 does SOCD cleaning automatically for keyboards.
