Do you use a fight stick?
Thinking of picking one up, and what you guys suggest, or if I should just stick to my xbox controller.

If you're interested in trying arcade stick, but don't want to drop $200, I'd recommend this one. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=43710

$80 and it uses a Sanwa JLF lever like most other quality fight sticks

that is a rebranded madcatz, they sell them under different names, sparkfox, gamesir, dragonslay, they are okay but not great.

if you compare the two, it is the same thing just different branding. I have one, it does the job but it is not great, i'd rather play on my atrox 360.

Looks like it was a brief spike of popularity then (:

This can be misleading. Most of the winners of these tournaments are players who play the game for years already. They have trained all these years on their input device (stick, pad), so, there's no reason for them to switch to a new device. It may even stunt their performance if doing so.

It does not necessarily say much about how good or bad hitboxes are. Thinking of pad players, people have said there's no chance with pad for years until some people proved them wrong.

If you're better with the hitbox and feel more comfortable doing all the moves and techs in the game, there's no reason why it can't be as good as a stick.

Another point, these devices all have pros and cons. Some things are easier to do on pad, some things are easier on a stick and other things may be easier on a hitbox. So, one could conclude that there's no absolute 'better' among those as long as the quality of the hardware is decent.

I use a Razer Kitsune currently and am very happy with it, although it's a bit pricey in my opinion. That being said I wanted something officially licensed since I play on PC but like the freedom of playing on ps5 when with my buddies so the price was worth it to me personally taking that and the build quality into account.

I will say that the best controller is the one you're most comfortable on, muscle memory trumps all.

Of course I do. There are arcade sticks for cheap. Others have mentioned.

Nope, they’re way more niche than sticks
Yeah but looks like it's shifting right now - sticks are going to museums and hitboxes are used by champions - that's what I see at least (with gpads as some median option)
Hitboxes are considered to be the best. Some even say it’s so good it’s cheating.

BUT most pro Tekken players use an arcade stick. Close to 100% of Pakistan and Korea players at least.

If you are not planning on going pro a good keyboard is all you need. And thats simply because you cannot bring a keyboard into tournaments.

I am not going to spend that much money on a stick or a hitbox for a single game. I already have a keyboard.

Yes! This! As a person who has some problems with wrist (huge pain after 40-50 mins playing fighting actively with gpad), I really recommend hitbox (:
Well, I actually don't have one yet - just ordered, but before placing an order I tried to play on keyboard (which I considered "stupid way to play fighting" all the time - oh these childish elitist's ways of thinking XD ) and suddenly - it felt SO GOOD - 1.5hrs rankeds non-stop and zero pain in the wrist :B1:
Waiting for delivery

Add: tried arcade stick some time ago - not an option. Not for me at least - using this stick demands way too much basic practice =_=

Theres no such thing as stress on your wrist on a fight stick.
I use a korean stick cause I find it more fun.
Hitbox is cheating.
I would say yes but prepared to put in the work to become proficient with it.

No-no, I meant the stress on right hand - while using gpad it really hurts after some time XD
And as one guy on YT said - if you can use keybord properly, there won't be serious issues with transferrin to hitbox - totally agree with that, could switch to one in no time. Stick - from other side - didn't become comfortable even after a month of practice, just not my type of controller .-.
Cheating or not - I don't care 'cause:
1. Not gonna be a pro - just having fun in rankeds from time to time;
2. Pro-players already used it during EVO thus precedent is already had place - too late for banning this "cheating" (:

Only some type of hitboxes and I think only for Street Fighter are not allowed. Normal hitboxes are allowed everywhere.

Not normal are the ones that let you press two opposite directions to make some moves easier.

Yeah, that are those without the SOCD cleaning. If your hitbox has that, you're good to go.

Hitbox and contrller they feel so much better than a stck
Mavi Feb 8, 2024 @ 4:55am
If someone is planning on using a keyboard, it can be a good idea to have some ahk script to have SOCD cleaning. It can simplify some of the inputs you typically do in fighting games.

Edit:
After testing a bit, it seems Tekken 8 does SOCD cleaning automatically for keyboards.
