Left arm throw (1 + 3 (x + a)) -> counter with 1 (x)
Right arm throw (2 + 4 (y + b)) -> counter with 2 (y)
Command throws which use 1 + 2 ( x + y) -> counter with 1 + 2 (x + y)

That's the theory at least, but still failing with it, to recognize a throw in fight and react needs some training, I guess.

Depending on the throw it can be broken with X or Y or both.
if it's a generic throw (like the ones you do with x+a) then you can press either X or Y.
For other throws you can look up in the movelist and it will say which button breaks it.
You can also check the replay and it will tell you.

Don't forget that if you KNOW opponent going to throw you (like he always do throw after some move that lock you) instead of breaking the throw you can either duck and launch him immidiately while crushing high throw or do a hopkick if you have more frames as this will beat most throws and lots of lows, i.e. all ways for opponent to deal damage on you.

I usually press Y and B since it's the most used throw (easiest to reach buttons)
most of the time it works
