Anyway yes, the trick is all about timing and actually pressing 2 at the same time of the diagonal.
In order to make it more reliable you should start by practicing wavedash(start slowly and get the inputs right) and also check the inputs in practice mode to see if you're too late or too early with 2.
You won't get it perfect right away of course but if you can get it 10/20 times instead of one it's already way better.

You can do it super slow. You press forward, then down and while holding down you press forward and 2 at the same time. It’s super strict just frame and hard to do on any controller. If you wire 2 and forward button together you would get it every time.
It’s funny how hard pressing two buttons together can be. It’s also inconsistent even for the best players in the world.

before that change - it felt like i had most success with pressing the punch button together with Down and then rolling over the Forward but not very consistent
