For someone who wants to get into fighting game, should I get Tekken or Street Fighter?
I want to get into fighting game long-term, which game should I get?

Which is more popular? Or easier to learn? Im very noob at fighting games but want to learn the mechanics, thanks!

Tbh, if you're new. Get Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round. Then get Tekken 8 as a secondary. As much fun as tekken is, doa5lr is pretty slow, easy to learn and also very much in depth. Which can ease you into the fgc. That's how I got started. But to each their own. When it comes to fighting games knowledge of things like frame data etc. carry over.

They're is no easier game to learn, they are just hard for different reasons.

You should pick the game you like the look of. is the someone in one of these games you would like to play? if so play that game.

Input windows are great in both games too.

I feel Tekken 7 is easier if you are still learning about the fundamental of the game...

Go get Tekken 7 first.. learn a bit.. Then if you like what you are seeing than, maybe get tekken 8...

^ Terrible advice.

Everyone moves on to the new tekken game and this is the new tekken game, get this one if you want to learn.

Tekken is probably the most difficult fighitng game, but as a new player you probably wont feel it until much later, tekken is actually good for new people because you can just wack buttons initially and cool ♥♥♥♥ will happen.

Tekken 8 actually has good tools to learn though. Ghost mode is great for a low pressure enviroment where the CPU doesn't act completely wrong and make you worse at the game. Arcade quest is an extended tutorial that gives you missions. It's also just a more complete package than mk1 and sf6 imo.

SF6 you will likely think is more difficult if you jump in now due to the seemingly more complicated inputs, and you have never played a fighting game before, it's not true but perception is everything.

Sf6 also have two button combos with modern controls. I have both but tekken is the better game for me.

The worst is MK1 ,dont even touch it.

This game is indeed harder to learn tho.. because the pace is so much faster... you dont have a strong movement tool apart from SS (but SS for new player is not even a thing yet).. and therefore forced to deal with BS strings a lot more.. and I havent mention + on block move as well... additionally, chip damage which subconciounsly will force people to just mash button because of the fear of that health constantly being chipped away...

Yes Tekken 7 have a huge + on block too but then you can go back to neutral again rather easily since movement allows you to do that... and blocking is actually encouraged since you still dont have the chip on block move..

Though I would agree that T8 have a better feature to aid new player in learning...

I recommend Street Fighter 6. You'll be able to focus on general fighting game fundamentals that translate between most other games, making them all easier to learn.

Most of what you would learn playing Tekken only applies to Tekken, and you'd have to unlearn it if you decide to play literally anything else.

Personally I think both are great to have. Play SF6 as your 2D fighter and Tekken as your 3D. If you must choose one pick based on if you prefer 2D vs 3D fighters. For me Tekken and SF have been my fighters since my childhood so I play both. If you new to both series Tekken is brand new so you will get really quick matches with others who are learning as well. Street Fighter still has a strong population with heavy console presence so its matchmaking is fast but its the core fighting game audience at this point.

Gran Blue Versus Rising

For the most modern fighters:
-If you want something like Street Fighter (huge on neutral game and mindgame) but more generous (a lot of characters), better design and more fun, buy Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising !
Grandblue is interesting because many features are like what you have in Tekken (for rush attacks, stances or counter). So with Grandblue you can learn to play 2D fighters and go easily after in a 3D fighter.
-If you want a real 3D fighter, it's Tekken 8 the best actually.
-If you want an "Anime" Fighter: Guilty Gear Strive

At a discount, you can buy:
-King of Fighter 15 (like Street Fighter but with a team)
-Soulcalibur (like Tekken but with weapons)
-Dead or Alive 5/6 (like Tekken but fan service with a lot beautiful women)
-Guilty Gear Xrd (the best anime fighter for me).
