Why are the female characters so bland in this franchise?

There is no good hair option for the girls in tekken none of the hair looks good. I understand the models have to be big for readability, but they are still too wide...

Still, if there were decent clothing options as well to conceal that issue, that also looked good, we would be in business. 80% of the tops for example are just variations on t-shirts or outrageously frumpy pieces that a grandma would be hesitant to wear. I do not get the clothing options at all. Zero fashion sense, which to me is crazy because so many top fashion designers are japanese yet these customization options are what we get? It's embarrassing

I'm more concerned as to whether or not the localization team forced any unnecessary changes to make the characters less appealing, given the recent trend of localizers trying to censor Japanese media (And then brag about it too).

Don't get me wrong, the ladies all still look very nice and appealing (Azucena and Nina probably being my favorites), but it is a lingering concern that I think is perfectly justified, given that the East is now the last remaining bastion of entertainment that makes attractive female characters

maybe i have been consuming korean movies. and missed the the pretty women. enjoying me some Lee Ha Nee lately! damn that is the pretiest woman i ever did see! i dont understand korean enough yet. but i get lost in her smile. when she talks or is on screen i forget to read the subs having to rewind!


maybe we dont want our fantasy shows/games. to reflect real the real world. or the 2 300 pound women working at the atlanta airport

Pretty much this. It's not hard to see the stark decline in character models for female characters in western developed games, when it comes to them looking like your average pretty woman. Even Baldur's Gate 3's Shadowheart, touted as "The most attractive companion" looks like a 5 or 6. And let's not forget the drastic difference between the facescreen actress for Mary Jane, versus the end result in Spiderman 2.

Also yes, Korean television is surprisingly very enjoyable. I watched My Demon recently and it was a very enjoyable watch. I couldn't help but smile the entire time whenever the lead actors were together on-screen. It's the kind of charm that is desperately needed these days.

i watch knightflower. about a widow(lee ha nee) goign out at night as ninja, fighting injustices(kinda batmanish genderswapped in the joseon period) i loved it. and fell in lvoe ad because of her i watched the fiery priest! my heterosexual female cousin came ove rand was like what wow who is that extremely pretty woman. told her miss korea 2006. turned actress! and yeah that is her. and then she saw the main protagonist (kam nam gil) and the male lead antagonist (GO jun) now she is watching it and enjoying it! she says it is bit weird the korean comedy but everything is so pretty! and all of them have flaws


and what do we have ugly marvels. dressed like men. no cleavage. no smiling! looking ugly

the models in the game of the males, like arnold, rambo, peacemaker, homelander resemble the real people/actors. but they uglynize the women in that same game!


i do see some of it in tekken! like the sportsbra having a extra layer! seems like most games the women dont wear sportsbra just as sportsbra they add a layer!

They are not bland, they look attractive to men. There is nothing wrong with celebrating feminine beauty. That is what the majority of the world wants to see.

Besides whilst they cannot be entirely be reduced to that, pretty women ARE mostly seen as sexual objects by men since the dawn of mankind and it will always remain so.. It is just human nature, can't be changed no matter how hard one tries to hammer down false truths in her/his mind.

You do not design characters to fit an ideology divorced with reality, you design them to be appealing to the general audience around the world (which is largely masculine in this case). It is a fantasy game after all.. what purpose would it serve to add unattractive females in it instead of cute, feminine and sexy females ? to meet quotas? to appease a niche of dogmatic people? I don't see the value for it personally.
