Feeling forced to use special style
i'm new/very bad, decided hop onto ranked and everyone uses special style in the low ranks so theres not even a place to learn the game NOT using special style. this is very bad because it not only makes it harder to play regular but also if you use special style you're not really learning the game to begin with.

(no im not willing to spend 200 hours in practice mode before going into ranked)

Learn a couple of your characters punish moves, a launcher, an easy combo and a few pokes. Then start learning your character's best tools for pressure, such as moves that leave you plus on block. After that start implementing more moves at your own pace.
Congratulations, you're now better than 90% of the people playing right now.

You watch Muay Thai fights on One Championship? Just curious I'm a big Muay thai fan, love some Rodtang Haggerty etc.

All I got to say about Tekken 8 is we need Fahkumram back in the season passes.

I'm new to Tekken too, defeating special style players is so easy. They all do the same combos and have zero fundamental knowledge how fighting games work.

I didn't have this issue because people would spam a special move so i play safe on round 1 and find out which one they spam then i counter it and play around it all game, that's how i climbed i'm currently at Calvary rank

Part of learning is learning the basics & losing in a fighting game, a lot especially. If you can't handle that then you shouldn't be playing them. You're very entitled. Buy a fighting game & expect not to have to do some work.

I don't think its unreasonable to not want to sit around practicing against AI for 500 hours before LOW RANK RANKED to be playable. special style is far more egregious than modern in sf6 too.
if you dont know how to counter someone using special style then your defense is garbage and you should look at how to punish those moves

play through the story/play through arcade quest - learn the game

If you have to spend 500 hours in practise mode to win a ranked game at the lowest level then this game is not for you. if you aren't prepared to do a little work to get competent at the game then this game is definitely not for you.

Go and download the top two characters from the leader board for every character and play against them in super ghost battle it's a great way to learn in a low pressure environment. you can also use these replays to practise. This game has revolutionary practise tools learn to enjoy them.

Special style is a trap.

The funny thing is that input in tekken is the easiest part of the game. This isnt even some elitist view.

The way that top players play and the way that people play in low ranks is very different. If you download the ghosts for top players, you aren't going to learn how to counter that garbage that's beating you in low ranks.

The top Law ghost isn't going to teach you how to low parry junkyard.
The top Nina ghost isn't going to teach you to duck and launch can opener.
etc.

If you want to beat noobs, you need to learn how to counter all the noob stuff that skilled players don't use because it's too easy to counter. When someone beats you by spamming garbage, load up the replay and figure out how to counter the garbage that they were spamming. Characters in Tekken have move lists that are 100+ moves long. A large portion of these (especially the ones that seem really strong when you're starting out) are gimmicks that become useless as soon as you know how to hard counter them.

Are they using strings that end with highs that you can duck and launch with your while rising punish?
Are they using moves that are punishable on block?
Are they using strings with gaps large enough to counter hit throw them?

you don't have to spend 500 hours in practice mode, if that was true there would be no tekken players in the world. You can get to green ranks just by pressing random buttons, Here I'll give you a Victor combo, press Right Punch while your tap down forward, right punch we call 2, it is Triangle on playstation and Y on xbox, this will be your launcher (hits someone up into the air), then keep pressing that button and don't stop until your opponent gets up. Easy huh? and without special controls. You'll see at some point during the combo the opponent lies on the floor with his legs up, that is called a tailspin and allows you to get extra hits, and that is how combos work. Launcher, float(a move often down forward 1 left punch, x or square, that levels someone out or lifts them up a little depending on the situation), filler, tailspin, ender.

I dont understand the question? You want to be good at Tekken without practicing but you dont like wins with special? There's only just so much the game can do for you. The nature of fighting games is 1v1. Whoever possess more experience and knowledge wins. If you want to get better you can only do that through trial, error, and training. If you don't want to do any of those things and you dont like the thought of the easymode special moves Tekken simply for you. Or any current fighting game for that matter. Maybe spectate them a while for motivation or leave them be.

"(no im not willing to spend 200 hours in practice mode before going into ranked)" u are playing ther wrong game then my friend. Tekken is extremely deep and technical. It REQUIRES you to lab, and often.
Markka Feb 2, 2024 @ 7:52am
Pick your character you wanna play, go to training mode and check out every move your character has ( yes all 130+ of them ) try them out and focus on using few of them at the start. We know its daunting to learn that many moves but believe me 90 % of players dont know their characters optimal play style even after 200 + hours. Focus on your neutral game, moving your character, doing simple jabs to do dmg and mix between high and low attacks

It might suck when you go to ranked and good player from tekken 7 destroys you immediately, thats normal because those people need to get through you to get their rank back so to say. You will get bodied by mashers who are unpredictable but thats literally how we all start playing this game.

ghosts are the best thing they added. Ghosts teach you how to approach 100 different situations and learn from them.

Or i quess if you dont have 200 + hours to learn your character in good fighting game you can always dumb 2000+ hours on call of duty.

special style is a detriment. You just need to get good or refund because its not going to get easier.
