Disk Write Error - Avast issue/potential fix

I've seen a few posts here and there about getting the "disk write error" issue preventing you from finishing the download of the game. If you use Avast antivirus, this may fix your problem.

Avast sometimes has issue with certain game files and will pop false positives as an IDP.generic "malware" and will place the file in quarantine. It won't always notify you of this, so you'll have to manually check. It should be the "Polaris-Win64-Shipping.exe" file.

If it is in quarantine, and you've done nothing else, you can just restore file and set exception and that should fix your problem. However, if you're a dummy like me and try other troubleshooting solutions first such as reinstalling the game before checking Avast, it can sometimes "hang" the file where it can't be restored or deleted. You can fix that with these steps:

1) Go to Avast settings under the General tab
2) Click Exceptions > Add Exception
3) Add your file path for where the file should be (you won't be able to browse for it because it is missing). Example: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\TEKKEN 8\Polaris\Binaries\Win64\Polaris-Win64-Shipping.exe
4) Add Exception
5) Ensure Avast is up to date (update virus definitions while you're at it)
6) Restart your computer

You should be able to go back into Avast quarantine and restore the file like normal. Once successful, go back to Steam and try to click Resume to continue downloading the game. It may start again from scratch, but it should be fine and all files should be present.

This may be an issue for other antivirus software as well, so start there if you're having this issue and see if you can troubleshoot it. Additionally, if you are still having issues there are several YouTube videos about troubleshooting this further on Steam. Just search "Steam Disk Write Error" and give those a try.

It took me a while to realize that this was because I had the antivirus in silent mode, and the antivirus did not notify me of the virus alert... What a shame...

I can't restore and add exception with avast. I tried all the fixes for disk write error on youtube. Re-installed the game and everything. Looks like I'm going to just have to refund >_>

does it work if you disable / shut down avast ? its bad anyway

Alternatively you could just uninstall avast because it's not any better than windows defender and conflicts with everything. AV's these days are pretty useless anyways better to just use ublock when browsing and run malwarebytes every once in a while.
