Do you use the analog left stick or the old school up/down/left/right "pad" ?
Hey all,

I have not played Tekken since the Playstation 1 and i got a controller question..

Am i supposed to use the analog left stick on the controller or the old school up/down/left/right "pad" ?

Tekken 1 player here, what "analog left stick" you are talking about?

100% use the dpad, the analog is slow and imprecise.
well, if you're playing it completely casually it doesn't really matter, but if you're trying to get the right moves to come out you're gonna have a bad time with analog.

Keyboard can be fine as well.

Dpad always.

Keyboard for the most control, friends call me a heretic but I'd be happy to own one of those large arcade style, button only* controllers if I was more invested into fighting games.

Extremely few people, and probably 0 pros, use the joystick on a controller. You don't have the control of an actual arcade stick with just your thumb on a joystick, and it's too sensitive physically for when your character needs more complex input chains.
Dpad will hurt if it's a bad one (and probably get minor deadzones faster over a controller's lifespan), but your thumb will get used to it with regular use, as long as you stop when it does hurt (when grinding a combo repeatedly in training).
Keyboard is technically good but most don't like it or go for a leverless fightstick instead of keyboard for the feel. Or ofc arcade stick...

but arcade stick has issues for me personally in like sf6 where you need double quartercircles in a combo (too tight with unclean inputs at my level of practice vs keyboard/leverless which is easy to plink).

Few people use the analog stick to play this game, you can see someone using it on SF but on tekken is harder because it requires much more little fast inputs. You should play with the D-pad or trying another device.

They have gates for them that makes inputs accurate (like the gamecube I assume) and some people prefer them. Personally I would rather cut my thumb off, but the options there.

lol ¿?

Left stick of a gamepad is totally useless on fighting games. I mean if you want to do something right you must use d-pad yes or yes.

D-pad is not "the old way" using gamepad, its just the only way.

I actually have never used leverless, going to try to run through the tutorial campaign with my keyboard to see how I like it.:revelatorram:
