Yes, Tekken provides a lot of depth to sink your teeth into if you WANT to. But just picking it up isn't hard at all, no matter what people on the internet are saying. Hell, Tekken 3 was pretty much "baby's first fighting game" for me, after UMK3 and SF2, which I was probably too young to play properly.
Felt easy to pick up then. Feels easy to jump back in now.
There are games that are NOT easy to pick up. Tekken is not one of them.
There is a an execution barrier, there are a few moves that will do extra damage if you input them perfectly, but mostly it comes down to remembering long strings and timing your buttons.
Tekken is very much a knowledge game, if you don't know what your opponent can do and how to deal with it, you will get put in the blender most probably.
But Tekken 8 has a feature called SPECIAL STYLE which is something made for beginners, casuals and people who can't be arsed with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and just want to jump in and mash. Thanks to it, the game is anything but hard. And from the demo, it seems the juggles won't be endless, this time. Which is awesome.
You won't find any REAL trouble until you hit high yellow-low red ranks. Guaranteed.
