Is tekken one of the hardest fighting games ?
From what I've read throughout the internet, most people consider tekken the hardest mainstream fighting game series (Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken) to learn. Is it true?

This will be my first tekken game, and I've only played SFV, SF6 and Strive so far.

Would love to hear your opinion.

Mastering Tekken is hard. But Tekken has one of the lowest skill floors in the industry. It's very easy to pick up and very intuitive to play. Unless you are completely clueless with how pressing buttons work, you will probably make something cool happen even if you just press stuff more or less at random.

Yes, Tekken provides a lot of depth to sink your teeth into if you WANT to. But just picking it up isn't hard at all, no matter what people on the internet are saying. Hell, Tekken 3 was pretty much "baby's first fighting game" for me, after UMK3 and SF2, which I was probably too young to play properly.

Felt easy to pick up then. Feels easy to jump back in now.

There are games that are NOT easy to pick up. Tekken is not one of them.

really depends what you find hard, except for characters like akuma, eliza and geese who aren't in tekken 8 you don't have special cancels. You also don't have ultra inputs. If you don't play character with a wavedash you don't have dragon punch inputs, very few characters have quarter circle inputs. Some of the most challenging inputs in tekken are movement, instant while running and korean backdash, both have been made much easier in 8. For backdash, they made backdash normally viable so if you can't backdash cancel you can still move around well enough.

There is a an execution barrier, there are a few moves that will do extra damage if you input them perfectly, but mostly it comes down to remembering long strings and timing your buttons.

Tekken is very much a knowledge game, if you don't know what your opponent can do and how to deal with it, you will get put in the blender most probably.

It's one of the easiest to rank up at start but the hardest to win world tournament.

The previous entries required the use of footwork and traps to succeed and you had to deal with lots of endless juggles that made you literally drop the controller, because you couldn't do literally anything to get away.

But Tekken 8 has a feature called SPECIAL STYLE which is something made for beginners, casuals and people who can't be arsed with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and just want to jump in and mash. Thanks to it, the game is anything but hard. And from the demo, it seems the juggles won't be endless, this time. Which is awesome.

You won't find any REAL trouble until you hit high yellow-low red ranks. Guaranteed.

I’m no fighting game pro but I am still able to enjoy the game even if I cannot string together combos manually.

Virtua Fighter is where it’s at. It’s a balance of hard and easy. I don’t care which is out to be better or the hardest fighting game. To me it doesn't mean it’s better because of the learning curve. All it does it push away the Smash Bros/MK fanboys that want to get into them.
