Fighting games ought to get cheaper, not more expensive
Because a higher price restricts matchmaking.

Fighting games need active users across all or most skill levels in every region for healthy online matchmaking, and increasing the barrier to entry will reduce the number of overall active players. Mildly interested players (like me) will be very unlikely to buy the game at this increased price or will wait for a sale several months down the road, and it impacts the players that do buy it right away at a high price.

I harped on both SF6 and KoF XV for being $60 USD (I think kof suffered from its high price A LOT because it's a niche fighting game to begin with), not so much on Granblue for being $50, but games that depend so much on active multiplayer should not be increasing their barrier to entry IMO.

What price do you think it should be?
Castyles Jan 17, 2024 @ 1:41am
Fighting games should be shipped, by default, as f2p titles, that's what.

Want to unlock the other features? Just buy it.

Nah, I don’t want to play against poor people using the same 2 free to play characters over and over

F2P with monetized cosmetics would be most desirable for me.

Actually it isn’t because luckily this game does have a crappy free to play system in place and that’s marvellous

You get that anyways in most fighting games except it's top tier characters.

i'm with you. i and many other people wouldn't have bought tekken 8 if it wasn't for cdkeys existing.
i play since tekken 3 it was my childhood game and i believe it has alot of replay value but at the same time life is expensive enough as it is, if i can get a deal that beats the official release pricing i'll take it.

I feel its a justified price for tekken.. since mocap isnt cheap.. not including the character model, the animation, , etc... I think mainman said that 1 character can cost up to 1 million dollar...

I do agree tho that other game like SF needs to be cheaper seeing there arent really anything that warrant things as expensive as it is...

just my 2 cents... i am probably wrong..

That's not how it works, a high production cost leads to a high selling price, you can't ask developers to do charity work, Tekken 8 isn't limited to online play (even if it's true that online is an important part of the game), you have to look at all the game modes as a whole, as well as the tools and options offered, you can't ask for the game to be F2P and still want all this content and quality level.

If you think it's to expensive, just wait for a sale.
The more people wait for a sale the better it will be and the faster it will come.

Imagine just a few 1000nd will buy the game at full price.
1-3 months later the sale is already at 25%.
3-6 months later at 50%.
Imagine the game will sell very well at full price.
First sale maybe 3 months later but just at 10%.
6 months later at 20% and we have to wait probably 2 years for a handy 50% sale.

Yes, literally this. Tekken 8 has almost triple the amount of content for a base game compared to SF6 base game, and SF6 is only $10 cheaper.

Please, in Ai era most stuff can be automatic and cost as cheap as dirt.
If someone wants to spend 1 mln/character, it is their desire, nothing more. It is like in movie you can have 300$ mln budget, but you need to pay 280 to actors)
I think, SF6 same as Strive, has 3D characters and 3D stage (you just see it from one angle). Only amount of movements is less.
I remember, that SFV has 2x more polygons/model, than T7.
SF6 offers a lot of stuff (good looking lobbies, great custom/avatar mode e t.c.)
Tekken most popular in Europe, so high price is not huge dealbreaker compared to KOFXV, that most popular in SA, I think.
For fg fans there are mainly 2 options in foreseeable future - SF6 and T8.
No matter, how expensive they are, if you spend thousands of hours here, it is worth it.

In the near future maybe AI can help.. but not sure if they have utilise it extensively as of now... Animation for example, sure you can do with AI in the future.. but right now even with mocap exisitng you still need to manually clean them in the graph editor which cost a long ass time... especially for a game like tekken that have 80 movesets or more....

not sure about your argument with character either.. I am just saying that developing character costs huge ass money.. hence why i think tekken price is justified...

I am not sure how the polygon contribute anything since you just bake the texture from hi poly model to the low poly one.... just because T7 have less poly, doesnt mean that they are less detailed... it all depends on the level of detail that the developer wants to put to the model... higher poly means more things to put in... but pass a certain threshold and the poly wont be noticeable to the naked eye unless you zoom and you also need to worry about game optimization since rendering huge amount of poly is not really something that the machine like unless you are UE 5....

For the SF 6 lobby thing sure i guess.. Its just my subjective opinion afterall...
