Soul Hacker 2 Sells Below Sega’s Expectations
Apparently Ringo is the biggest reason this failed, so I guess we're going back to silent male protagonists.

Nowhere in the linked article does it blame Ringo for the poor sales. No reason is given. I don't think Atlus/Sega are even sure at this point.

Ringo is the best thing about this game though.

Dungeons, lack of soundtrack, terrible cutscene animations (non pre-rendered ones), low amount of overall content, insane pricing and rushed story telling are reasons it failed.

Do we get more DLC? I want to see cleopatra.

Kinda sad reading that piece but also not really unexpected; they made many terrible decisions even before the game released. Despite all its faults, I'm really enjoying the game. Hope this doesn't discourage Atlus/SEGA to continue working on other Megaten spin-offs.

The article doesn't event mention Ringo once, lmao

That's what happens when you release a low effort lazy game and put a massive price tag with abysmal regional prices to top it all off

I really loved this game..until it stopped working and is refusing to load.

IDK how much this affected sales, but I feel like calling it "Soul hackers 2" instead of "Soul hackers new generation" or something gives the impression that it's a continuation of SH1, a game most haven't played and maybe not even heard of, so to a newcomer they may just think "Ahh I haven't played the first, I won't get this game then". Which is a shame because this game doesn't pick up on any of the plot, characters, or setting of SH1 (At least as far as I've gotten), so it doesn't really make sense calling it 2

Why did the OP editorialize that part about Ringo..?
She's one of the best parts of the game, and a huge step up over the silent schoolboys.

I too am going to go with a combination of terrible marketing (in the West atleast), awful dungeon design being the prominent talking point from every reviewer, and chopping up the obviously finished product into chunks just to be resold at it's insane regional markup was a pretty sh*tty move that shot themselves in the foot as it turns out.

I liked the game, despite it being a little too grindy. Shame they stumbled so much to ensure we probably won't see more of it.
Hope Atlus takes some lessons away from this... INB4 Persona 3 lists on steam for another 99AUD :steamfacepalm:

If the game were to be sold at $30-$40 instead of $70-80$, I am very sure they can hit their sales unit target, which will inadvertently please their shareholders.

it not about Ringo at all. This game absolutely suck even if arrow was protagonist due to overprice with lack of contents. Story and Dungeon literally boring.
Atlus has been making alot of stinkers recently. Soul hackers has a lovely art style, music but rest of the game falls flat on it's face, it was so boring to go through that every dungeon and battle felt more like an extended cutscene that you just can't skip.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 in it's mechanics and good starting point for newcomers.
But alot of content you can clearly tell has been cut as you can easily tell with alot of the game's story even the DLC feels incomplete except for the demi fiend one which was fun.

I feel the SMT series is used as a lab rat to test n train the staff at atlus to make persona 6 which I bet will be awesome but as someone who loves challenging rpgs and a good story, especially after i recently completed SMT 4 at the time. It made SMT5 a complete let down compared to SMT 4 which is a 3DS game with 2D and more simple 3D models. yet it had such a well done competent mature story, great challenge, and a banger of a soundtrack.

Persona franchise is main franchise now. They don't bother with SMT any more only for cash grab. I mostly love how unique demon in Sou; hacker 1.

Game was a cash in on the soul hackers moniker. Honestly, fun but average "video game" at best with a light SMT skin over it. If atlus wanted a game to sell better, they should put more effort (and not completely botch a launch). Maybe they will learn from this - *shrugs*

Atlus should've kept the Shin Megami Tensei title in front of the Soul Hackers 2. Most people probably never played Soul Hackers 1 to even know this is a SMT spinoff.
