Soul Hackers 2
Love FF, never played a SMT RPG before, is this a good start?
Looking for a new JRPG to play, I've played every FF except 8, completed most all of them, and love the franchise to bits. FFV is my favorite and I prefer the NES/SNES era games over PS1 but really enjoyed X, XII, and XIII too. Also thoroughly enjoyed Bravely Default, DQ11 and Crystal Project.

Given the above statements and the diversity of JRPGs, would Soul Hackers 2 be a good pickup for someone like me?

(Edit: Also kind of enjoying Yakuza LAD but it's definitely dragging for me at the 15-hour mark—didn't really have that problem with the other JRPGs mentioned...easily sank 30-70 hours into those on first playthrough)

LMAO people are actually recommending SMT 3 Nocturne for someone who has never played any SMT games before? It's like throwing a newborn lamb at a pack of wolves! Soul Hackers 2 is a way easier entry point or maybe the spin-off Persona 4 Golden.
This is something that always baffled me, I found Nocturne MILES easier than Personas (except 5 maybe) on base difficulty at least.

Combat allows you to abuse the mechanics as much as humanly possible, while Personas are more straight forward and even have a time limit.

If you actually want to have a good time as an FF fan going into SMT you really should start with Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2.

SMT4 is my favorite, but I wouldn't recommend it to a first time SMT player coming from FF. People telling you to jump straight into a mainline SMT game are trying to get you to skip straight to the hardcore parts of the franchise that they think are better, without taking into consideration the kinds of games you said you liked.

Don't listen to anyone here; everyone is just recommending their favorites (and ***ing on the ones they dislike).
Just don't bother with Megaten at all if you're a Final Fantasy fan.
