The animated scenes are also exceptionally well done.
That being said its not perfect, there are few animated scenes and most of them with the same girls.
Also I really dislike this trend of ending on cliffhangers where we'll only see what happens after in 2+ years.
The design of the characters was pretty great, as are all the 3D animations. Not the best out there, but certainly top tier. what I feel sets it kind of apart from other games is how expressive the artist makes his characters. while not necessarily very realistic, it does make for enjoyable scenes.
characterisation is also a big plus. While they do tend to follow stereotypes, and all the good guys are exceptionally sweet, friendly, warm, welcoming and generous, they, and their dialogue, are written pretty well.
That being said, I feel characters lack depth. In their overall awesomeness, I kinda feel everyone fails to intrigue me. I enjoy reading and watching interactions, but I'm not really 'moved' by anyone or curious what will happen to them. They are all so perfect, and awesome with everyone a little drama,... I can't relate.
and then we come to the story. Is it a bad story? not necessarily. but I wouldn't call it good. It's cliche, it's as subtle as a kick in the groin. I found myself rolling my eyes one too many times.
in addition - and as someone else mentioned - there are quite a few times that my suspension of disbelief is stretched waaay too thin. An interview on the topic of AI, and he's talking about object orientated programming? that's like asking a candidate surgeon of s(he) can take blood. if the author isn't familiar with some of these topics, best would've been to stay clear of them.
it did definitely improve gradually. The first chapter was not all that good. from the 2nd chapter onwards it became better and I was happy to finish the first book. though Clliffhanger there might be, it left me very neutral.
