Spellblade is better with nothing than ninja and probably nor a downgrade, but scales really well with items.
One neat thing you can do is use dual-use on one character, then use an ability with copycat on another character. This will get you a second use from that copycat, but before you use the second charge, you use a different ability (such as mana gain) and then the second charge on copycat will switch to mana gain.
Copycat can also become cantrip if a cantrip fires during the rolling phase.
If you have some way to ramp up the pips on a copycat ability, then it can become a really strong carry ability. I had a sharpshoot that had on their right-side ranged attack 4 pips and triplet, and then I was double-shotting it + mana gaining it. So that's 24 damage + 12 mana when the combo goes off. Came in clutch versus the Hand. Though that character was kind of busted anyways and I probably would have won even if I didn't get off my crazy combo.
Here with a Jump + Sushi on a Spell blade together with the reroll cantrips on Sphere, i almost killed The Hand without playing a single dice on Hard
