Is This A Subscription Or Perpetual License? Updates?
Do I receive updates on this product with bug fixes and what not? If so, how long? If 2023 version comes up, do I need to spend another $150?

You will receive free updates and fixes for the duration of the year 2022. A new version will be available in 2023, but you will still be able to use the 2022 version indefinitely.

I think you can upgrade to 2023 in the future at a discount if you have the 2022 version.

i have some questions:

1. will i have access to a library of materials?
2. how many materials and assets are included with my purchase?
3. will i be able to access/download/use them forever?

The app comes with a library of about 200 materials, and you can find plenty of free materials on https://substance3d.adobe.com/community-assets/ and other places.
You also have access to the free section of our Assets website, around 130 extra materials and 3D models (https://substance3d.adobe.com/assets/allassets?free=true). Once downloaded, you can use these assets forever yes.

I have painter from before Adobe acquired it. the documentation has all since been taken down online and all of the tutorials online are for newer versions. I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy 2022 or will adobe just pigeon hole its customers into buying the new one that comes out with exclusive cloud based services and other things each year?

Last I checked I didnt have access to adobe's asset library because I spent my money on this software before Adobe did. So if I buy it all over again how can I be sure they won't do some other greedy money grubbing things?

Hi, the documentation and tutorials are always updated to reflect the latest changes in the app and avoid confusion. The Adobe and Steam versions are still very much the same apart from a few interop features that are relying on Adobe APIs, and I don't expect them to diverge much more in the future.
The asset library was always tied to the subscription, even before Adobe, but there is plenty of free assets on the platform still, hundreds of them.

Can pretty well guarantee once September comes perpetual will be gone and adobe will be wrecking people's wallets as usual.

Every year someone makes that prediction. We're still here :)

Forgive my ignorance, I just purchased Substance 3D and now don't really understand what I have purchased. I realized that somehow the program is not installed on my desktop and is rather only available if I run STEAM. Can someone please explain this to me? Is this some sort of VM software I am running through STEAM? Can I only run through STEAM? Will it "connect"/"talk to" my Desktop Maya?

Thank you in advance for any clarity someone could provide.

there's a loyalty discount for having the previous year, although it is limited to a while after the new version's launch.

The app is installed locally, and like any other game you would buy on Steam, the Steam client needs to be running to use it, like Adobe services need to be running for you to launch an Adobe Creative Cloud app for example.

I missed the loyalty discount. Why not make it a permanent thing? I will like to upgrade from Substance 2021 to 2022 at a cheaper price rather than paying for full price again.

Hey Jerc,

Is there any sales that happen during the year with Substance Painter? - Poor artist not enough money unfortunately, but would love to add to my toolbox.

If I wanted to purchase this and then upgrade to a new version in the future will that be possible? (2023, 2024, etc.) I'm just trying to avoid the adobe subscription monopoly at all costs in every aspect of my life or I wouldn't even consider buying software like this through steam lol :P Surprised to find it existed here xD
