Smashball

Smashball

So what's the state of this game.
I recently found out about the game and I am interested in playing it, though I have not been able to get into a single game with another player yet and I only ever saw another server up once. I've only been playing with bots so far. I've watched several Youtube videos about this game and I am really interested to play it.

So what I mean with this game is aside from not a lot of people playing it anymore, what is general the state of this game. For example, are the developers even around still? Are there any people that actually still play this game regularly or something like that? I ask because I would like to play and saw how this game is essentially dead and was curious about it after seeing some Smashball revive group about what even happened with this game to make it become dead.

I know there are a lot of groups dedicated to Smashball, some of them about bringing it back or reviving it, but the thing is while those groups have close to 300 members I still can't find a single game with anyone else. I've only ever seen one server in the server list and I would have joined but the person was just playing with bots.

Honestly, this discussion board seems to be so empty that it may be months before someone even actually sees this, which is sad, but like I said I know the game is practically dead right now outside of the people that want to bring it back.

If anyone wants to play though and is looking for someone else i'd be down to play. I wanna play at least one real match of this thing since it looks fun and not just play against bots since there are no servers. Don't expect me to be good though, lol.

Currently it is, but all it needs is more people to give it a try though so the playerbase can increase. I just found out about it 2 days ago and I wanna play it with other people, so that's already one more person in the playerbase of this game.

For the most part anyone who played during the "revival" either doesn't play games at all anymore, or just aren't dedicated enough to play. I also started to play this game after it was dead, there were some points when we would get 10+ player games going, and we even had a 4v4 league with teams at one point, but people have basically accepted the fact that its dead and have moved on. I have a feeling that old players including me would still play but its just to hard for everyone to get on at the same time.

If it did get popular again do you think this game would even have a future such as more updates/maybe even a potential rerelease as an official game instead of a mod?

1) leading dev voodooc still around, you can contact him if you want
http://steamcommunity.com/id/voodooc
2) how many member of group doesnt mean anything, group for battleground 2 mod have more than 1000+ members, and still hardly find anyone playing it besides clan members
3) its almost impossible to revive a game imo, just look at evolve, which goes free back in june 2016, and quickly become silent again(still better than many other games though)
http://steamcharts.com/app/273350
4) theres no smashball clan alive now, which its important to keep niche game alive i think. just look at battleground 2, released in 2006, now purely alive by weekend battle by clans and very few dedicated players

I don't doubt that people would come! We use to do Sunday pubs, so if schedules are similar to how they use to be, maybe people will come play.
Well if you guys ever want to i'm down to play. I'd like to at least play one real match instead of just matches with bots.

Not to seem a bit odd that I was asking all these questions about the game such as are the developers around when I had just found out about the game like a week earlier, but I just was really interested in playing it when I found out about it and was curious about why it's sort of dead now. I'm not all of a sudden a someone who cares about everything of this game or who to know everyone about this game and its development or anything, I don't care about that stuff for a game I hardly know much about lol, I just thought it looked really fun and was curious about the state of it after seeing some of those Smashball Revival groups and such.

What if the game got released as a stand alone game? Do you think that might get it to be seen more publicly, maybe attract more public interest?

It sort of would be like starting fresh.

One would hope it could happen. The original dev team had a discussion with the remaining community a couple of years ago, but I don't see them ever having the money to really give this game the work that it needs for a standalone release. And the last time they had money to put into this game they kind of ruined the game entirely.

I'd love this game to have even a small amount of the popularity that Rocket League has. Clearly mainstream gamers can enjoy a game like this (extreme/ridiculous sports) but there are a lot of design issues present in this game which would probably require a full from scratch remake of the game.

If anyone ever wants to play I host a server every once in awhile. If you guys want to host your own server I put together a server package with a TON of balance changes to reverse the worst patch I've ever seen for a game. The main issue with hosting a server is that in order to really experience smashball the way it should be, you need the old versions of the maps (which were much larger for the higher speeds). Someone needs to find somewhere to host the map files, or players need to download the maps manually. It's too bad that I'm not part of the dev team, or I'd submit a patch to steam lol. Anyways, the google drive with everything is here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8Mob5b_HfczdmZudUxiMHJLRjA you want the server download folder and the balance change folder. There are readmes and what not there. @Anyone interested in hosting a server, good luck and hit me up if there are any questions.

Hey guys, what if I hosted a public 24/7 server? When was the last time there was one?

Small amount of popularity? Dude do you know how much Rocket League developers already made off their game? They are basically set for the rest of their lives if they want they can spend the rest of their lives in a couch drinking beer and watching tv all day!

Also Rocket League has a big populairy not a small one. Almost everyone already played it once and continue to play it epecially FIFA and PES fans. LOL

If this game ever become a trend like Rocket League did. I´m sure its developers will never have to worry about making ends meet or the player base amount in their servers.

Well i'm still willing to play if anyone ever wants to, still haven't played a single real match of this thing. I check occassionally every once in a while to see if I can maybe find a server but nope or I try to make my own and see if anyone else joins but nope. There really aren't many people playing this currently, or at least never at the exact same time to be able to join each other.

I think a standalone version of this as an official release would do better as well, but do the devs of this even have that kind of manpower to do that? Or is it just like one person now.

Can your computer handle making a server that's always up? That might do the trick. I'm thinking of doing that also, once I figure out how and get over my laziness
