AI VA?
Is the supervisor (Skinner) voiced by AI? Understandable if it's a filler for a demo but you gotta declare that on the store page.

All the actors are NOT AI. SKINNER is voiced by Matthew VANSTON (https://www.matthew-vanston.fr/)

This was my first thought too, but glad to hear that an actual voice actor was used. Some of the lines are voiced a little strangely to a native English speaker, so I think a few people may end up assuming it's AI. Kudos for not going the AI route!

It would be great but you're not going to be able to tell anyway. I hope more and more games use full voice acting for pennies as enabled by AI

There was one word pronounced very robotically which also made me think Skinner was AI voice.
I have no issue with AI voices however, particularly with how expensive it can be to hire decent VAs.

I'd rather humans get paid for creativity. But thanks for the clarification dev! Just some of the intonation felt a bit robotic.

Why would you want to pay more to get a worse, slower job done, when AI can do almost the same for pennies and in seconds?

AI is NOT:
- Better
- Faster
We used AI for the placeholder voices during the development and I can tell you that generating good-ish lines takes forever, with many many iterations required (and little to no control over the emotion).
Real actors give life to the characters, they can understand what we're trying to convey and are wayyyy easier to direct. The result is simply not comparable to AIs.

And of course, I'm only talking about quality here. But there's a lot of other things to consider (ethic, how the AI is trained, etc).

That's a matter of time until models get better. 2 years ago people were saying that AI can't draw hands, etc. All of these issues are gone now. And of course nothing beats having a fully voice acted mod for a few bucks, within seconds. Used to be almost no mods ever had any voice acting. These things are only going to get better and better, and there's no copyright on the timbre of voice.

Thank ♥♥♥♥ for this comment, especially coming from the dev. AI cannot produce art with emotion behind it, voice actors are so important and I'm glad you sourced them instead.

"AI cannot produce art with emotion behind it, voice actors are so important and I'm glad you sourced them instead."

Fixed that for you. :cupup::cuphead:

Emotion is what makes art. The human element is what makes art. What AI creates is nothing more than soulless regurgitation.

And thank you, Bastienre4, for A) letting us know that a human is behind Skinner's voice, making him sound considerably odd, and B) that you continue to support real voice actors with real voices!

Cheer up matey potatey, I just asked because it needs to be stated on Steam game pages. Dev clarified and I thanked them for it. I hope you have a lovely day 💞

With respect, it's not completely clear, at least in the English version. Some of the spoken lines have an odd inflection/intonation that makes them sound not quite human, so I'm glad the dev cleared that up!

I found this thread because I had the same question, however I was also wondering if the portraits for the characters are AI generated? Based on earlier replies from the developer I'd think no, but would love some clarification if possible.
Happy to hear you guys aren't using AI for VA, though. (:
