Been having a blast but curious about leveling skills
So how does skill leveling work? Is it only based on your potential for that skill, passives you might choose, and your mortals overall level?

For example if I have two mortals with identical everything and one does nothing but crafting and the other only trains ranged will one end up higher skilled in crafting and the other a better archer or does the work/training they do not matter when it comes to skills?

I know once you hit level 20 your skills are set, and your skills level up when your character does but I’m wondering can I as the player impact how someone’s final skill levels will be?

If training and working doesn’t impact skills then is there a point to training combat skills or am I better not having training dummies and let them haul or something?

Thanks friend!

Hover over the little (?) next to the Skills Header for a detailed explanation.

Essentially, they primarily earn progress in the Skill that they're using when they earn XP. Potential dictates the rate of XP and progress gain when using that Skill as well as the cap.

In addition, they earn a small amount of progress in the other Skills based on their potential in those Skills. Think of it as knowledge they can take to that other Job from what they're learning here.

Re: Training, it does impact skills. It's a way to work on skills that they don't otherwise get the opportunity to use all the time. With the upcoming update, it's available for all Skills via Studying.

Ok so if I wanted to get the best skill outcome possible I should hold off on hitting level 20?

Basically don’t let them “character level” up to 20 for as long as possible to maximize their skills?

Is there a plan to allow skills to increase past character level 20 to their potential cap?

Is there anything that impacts how much health the mortals get on level up?

They bank the point as soon as they earn enough xp for the level, there's no benefit in waiting.

No, it's up to you to capitalize on their potential before they reach the cap.

There isn't... Yet.

Ahh so to get the best skills for my people I should have them focus on only a few skills instead of having them kinda generalize and do all kinds of odd jobs.

This probably explains why all my people are so lackluster at combat lol I tend to mass emergency command my people to haul a lot because 1-2 people on hauling don’t really keep up so everyone probably got a lot of wasted xp towards hauling. Then pair that with my lack of using the training dummies and yeah these guys are gonna struggle when endgame hits
