Level up no longer has random seeds...
Level up no longer has random seeds...

the Lvl Up generator, seems to have locked in skills and other factors, it takes the fun out of having specialists when your best craftier get Nurse + 1 and Cleaning +1 only... Both white skills and +2 hit points.

Why change the random seed generator use?

Edit: I reread the update notes, but, for example the above character didn't do any Nursing nor Cleaning that i am aware of.

Can't there be a happy medium between use growth skills and still some randomness chance to improve other skill possible?

While interesting, we felt the randomization pushed Leveling Up towards a poor game loop. You could got lucky with a bunch of extra Skill Points, but it also meant missing out on Skill Points you expected someone to get. Reloading saves to reroll level ups became the optimal path. This isn't desirable from a systems design standpoint.

As before - whenever a Mortal gains experience in a skill, they also gain *crossover* experience in their other skills based on their potential in those skills. Now - when leveling - the Skills that have gained 100% of the experience needed for their next Point will get one. Any remaining experience is applied to the progress towards the next point. You can track this progress by hovering over a Skill on the Jobs tab. Numbers have been retuned to achieve the desired skill arcs over a Mortal's life.

At lvl 20 they should end up with roughly the same skill loadout as before on average, just more predictably and with less outliers.

As with all systems we build and changes we make, we'll continue to monitor feedback and experiences that y'all are having and factor those into our next step.

Thanks for the feedback!

If we wait to level up, do the skills used gained in the mean time tick up even if they reached the level up point after the level up graphic tag and later when you actually select to level up?

In practice can you then wait until a specialist reaches a pip on their preferred skill before I go to the level up overlay?

They don't - progress is saved at the moment they gain enough xp to level up.

Unless there's a bug

The interesting choice is now centered on where they spend their time earning xp - which we think is where it should be. The optimal path is keeping them fed with work related to that job. The other skills they gain along the way will help them with other tasks around the kingdom or with a new primary job if you get someone better for their current one.

We want people to become well-rounded - just in a predictable and decipherable way.

Hope that helps!

So we are basically forced to level up a character, even if they didn't gain any skills we might have hoped for, if some third rate skills in enough combo to merit a level up in those skill to a full xp level up... it then pauses all other skill gain until we do the character level up overlay?

No - character level xp is a separate pool from progress towards skill points points. Characters will continue to make progress whether you accrue xp against their next character level and against the next skill points while you wait. They can accumulate multiple levels worth of experience (as before) and multiple banked skill points this way.

The end character level and skill points will be the same whether you wait or not.

Also, on a character I waited to level up... I got a level up +2, was that there before, I always just did the level up process in the past as soon as i could do so.

In the level up +2 the character also got a ton of skills it was doubtful he used, but, i was busy posting here lol

That seems to be what I just experienced

But in that way, I can hold a level up process until I am sure the character has gain the needed points in a specific skill before I trigger the level up overlay?

No - when they gain enough character xp to level up, we record the progress towards skill points alongside the banked level. The Skill Points awarded are determined at that moment.

Yes, gained 2 levels

But it lets me hold the 1st level and gain the skills I want... then I do a x2 level up to be sure I gain the preferred skill in the 2nd level process.

Is how it appeared to work

It banks them at the level up and continues to progress towards the second one - results should be the same whether you held it or not.
