Mage Staff Imbue rules?

Trying to figure out how upgrades and imbues work, because I just got an extremely undesirable result from this scenario:

Mage staff +1, upgraded once via scroll
Wand of Ligntning +3, upgraded 3 times via arcane resin

Based on the rules listed in the wiki, this should imbue into a +4 Staff of Lightning. But the actual result was a +1. Did I miss something?

Arcane resin upgrades are not true updates, they are overridden by scrolls of upgrade and they aren't counted when imbuing with the mage's staff. The staff does state what level it will end up as in the confirmation window, and would have stated +1 in this case.

Ah I see! The resin tooltip does call that out. But the "Enhancing Weapons" journal page does just call them upgrades, so may I suggest a note there to, uh, raise awareness? I'll show myself out.
