As just mentioned, you focus on crossbows since they're ranged weapons and also deal quite a lot of damage. For mobility you'll focus on Athletics.
For the Insect Queen, you should pick two levels in Ranged and one level in Athletics. That'll give you two offensive skills and one much needed mobility skill. If possible, it'd help to get decent gear as well but it shouldn't be necessary.
When actually fighting the Insect Queen, she'll actually always pause every few turns to mark the area where the lightning spell will hit. She'll do this no matter whether you're far away or right next to her, meaning you can exploit this pause as needed. However, she'll always cast a fireball the next turn, meaning you need to make sure not to be in its path as it travels two tiles per turn. Make sure to ration your stamina as needed between the ranged knockback and Quick Jump in case the boss gets too close or you need to dodge an attack. Apart from that, just attack normally until she's defeated.
If you have any consumables to use, then do use them for every boss fight! Every potion, recovery herb, spider web, caltrops, and scrolls. It's all fair game!
For the Ancient Sentinel, you'll need to do some preparations. Among them is getting three extra skill books.
One is inside the first cave where you fight the Insect Queen. Just head south where you find her and you'll find a narrow path leading to a chest with your first book.
The second book is in the larger Bandit Camp at [1, 4] in the chest.
The third book is in Immerfurt, in the southern part of town. It's hidden in a crate in a narrow alley right above Isdas the Herbalst.
Another preparation you could consider is to finish the quest The Lost Heirlooms just so you can get and purchase epic crossbows. Not necessary if you already got good gear.
At level 10 you should have a total of 13 skill points to spare. You're going to need seven points in Athletics in order to both get Instant Switch and Trained Runner perks. Instant Switch means you can swap between two weapons without spending a turn, which means you can swap and use two crossbows while the other is on cooldown. Trained Runner lets you move one step for free every turn, greatly increasing your mobility.
The remaining 6 points should be put into Ranged Weapons. This will give you both stamina recovery on attack and Confusing Shot.
For the battle itself, you'll need to be wary of what abilities the Ancient Sentinel will have. The worst combo it can have is throwing the green ball at turn one, then pulling you towards it and knocking you back straight into the green ball (speaking from personal experience). Always make sure to properly move to the side to avoid this scenario. The Healing Growth is also something you'll have to be quick at defeating. Confusing Shot will help you to get a clear shot in case it spawns behind the Ancient Sentinel. Apart from that, you just need to whittle it down with your two crossbows until you win.
For the Ritual Cult Master, what's important is to actually be able to reach it before the Spirit Stalkers begin swarming you. It's thus a good idea to get two points in Survival for Sprint, just to delay the Spirits for as long as possible. It's also a good idea to get the five free Vial of Lights from the Raided Treasure Hunter at [11, 12]. With those at hand, you can repel every Stalker ambush before they descend upon you. Apart from that, you can put your points in Ranged Weapons for the Extra Range Damage perk.
Gear is always important to upgrade. Either by purchasing them, moving stats around with the vendors' Modify feature, or just getting lucky and finding them. Also make sure you bring Antidote Herbs before going out as they'll cancel the curse the Ritual Cult Master casts on you. If you also happen to get any good talimans, then that's great! They aren't required though.
The fight itself... actually reaching the Ritual Cult Master is the first challenging bit. Easiest would be to [10, 11] and go north east from there.
There will be a lot of other enemies around the Ritual Cult Master. Dealing with them first is important as they like to heal the boss. Having high mobility will greatly help you here as well.
When fighting the Ritual Cultist Master, you'll need to be careful of two things. One is the Ritual Curse it casts on you. This needs to be cured with an Antidote Herb or you will surely die within a few turns. The other thing is the Spirit Stalker it summons. If you are farther than two steps away from it, it'll pull you towards itself and deal damage. If you position yourself to be exactly two steps away, it'll never use its puling attack. Apart from that, you just need to avoid taking too much damage and whittle the boss down.
Reminder to make use of every consumable you have. They'll do no good just sitting in your backpack. Any Juice of the Golden Tree for example will help quite a bit with increasing your survivability.
This is the guide I got. Hope it'll help you with getting those last few achievements! Good luck!
Thank you! Your guide absolutely helped and following exactly what you wrote here (with the dual crossbow and athletics + archery skills), I snagged all of the fearless challenges
Also a pro tip for the last one: I found a easier workaround for the Ritual Cultist Master; instead of killing the one in the haunted forest, you can actually kill off another ritual master in the final adventurers guild mission, where you need to kill the cultists under the city. I strongly recommend this one because you don't have to worry about the ghosts ambushing you or needing light to keep them at bay, so it's just a lot less stress. In the quest, when you finally get the essence (the one you should've gotten after beating the fearless achievement to kill the sentinel) to open the door, you can find the ritual master in the southwest portion of the map. I actually killed the boss by spamming the long shot skill and with 1 bug meat (and kept moving around to cooldown the skill) and managed to snag the last at lvl. 12, so it's definitely easier than the sentinel one!
@Tseralith: I think I'd like to create a achievement guide for the game. If I do, do you mind if I mention what you wrote here for anyone else having issues with the fearless challenges? Of course, I will give credit for the walkthrough
Oh right! Didn't think about the one in the Adventurers Guild mission. Good catch!
And of course you can mention what I've written here! I'd be happy if it could help more people to get this achievement.
Awesome! Thank you
I'd kept an eye on the thread for a couple of days, but then when nobody responded, I forgot about it.
Was very pleased to now come back to it, with a kick-ass recommendation (or, two, actually).
Will definitely roll a new character one of these days to try and knock out the 3 fearless achievements, and perhaps will keep rolling and do the last one with the treasure maps.
Thank you!
Two bosses to go.
Oh, by the way, if you happen to check back in on this thread, what kind of stat distribution would you do with the dual-crossbow build?
Dexterity+Perception mostly? Or a bunch of Strength and/or Vitality in the mix?
Wondering especially if I was going to take the build to max level.
If you want my final stat build for level 25, it is
-Strength: 66 -- The higher your strength, the more damage you can deal. Also some extra physical resistance
-Intellect: 17 -- No extra stat added. Just the default gained from Champion Body Armor +1
-Dexterity: 36 -- Mostly gained from Champion Body Armor +1 and Boots of Swiftness +1
-Perception: 55 -- Just enough to get 50% crit chance since that's the soft cap
-Willpower: 17 -- Got it from a lucky Talisman drop and the Artifact of Rejuvenation
-Vitality: 65 -- I invested heavily into vitality since this is my "Endless Arena Mode" build where I need to ensure I won't get oneshot by enemies in the later waves.
Another thing I also got is
-Critical Damage Multiplier: 517% -- Crit negates almost all armor, meaning this is a reliable way to deal massive damage in the Endless Arena Mode
As I just mentioned, this is my level 25 Endless Arena Mode build. It won't be as applicable for the Fearless achievement given you can't get certain items, but you can maybe get the gist of the stat distribution from this.
For the Fearless achievement... it depends a little on your playstyle, but enough perception (and/or dexterity) to get 150% efficiency, some in willpower just so you won't run out of stamina straight away, and then strength and vitality to ensure you can both deal damage and endure some attacks.
Awesome, once again, thanks a lot!
This is very helpful.
Cheesed the heck out of the underground one with long shot, per Daku's recommendation.
The Ancient Sentinel was an even harder fight, most likely because I did it at level 9, without the "1 extra move per turn" perk.
Ran into the Sentinel on my way to grab the book from the south town.
Got the green blob+pull sentinel, and after a very long battle, he killed me.
Respawned, figured I'd give it another go, before moving on to get the extra level+book.
This time around got a different version, one that spawns the area of spikes.
This was still very annoying without the extra movement, but after once again a very long fight, I managed to kill him.
The first 5 levels were probably the hardest ones, mostly because I was using a single white crossbow. Then two white crossbows.
As soon as I got one blue or purple crossbow, the damage got much better, and with a second better quality crossbow, plus the free weapon switch passive, it got hella smooth going.
Thank you very much to the both of you!!!
All of the fearless achievements are done.
Now just ~5 more high quality treasure maps to solve, and I'll have all achievements in the game.
Might take the double-crossbow build all the way through the game, but not quite sure, as I'd already beat it in the past.
Am I looking for orange maps? :0
Or was the pink map too low level and somehow didn't count? (I was in the starter village)
EDIT: It was probably the latter. Just went on to my old mage character (max level, the one that cleared the game).
Farmed up a few more fragments.
Spam-reloaded until I managed to craft 2 Epic (pink) maps in the last town.
And finding these treasures got me 2 points toward the achievement.
Another 4+ fragments to go then. And a bunch of game reloading until I get lucky with Epic treasure maps at 10% chance.
Just in case someone ends up finding this thread, and is looking to get a bunch of maps fragments.
I'm not sure if it's random and I simply got very lucky, or if there are any map seeds or anything.
But just in case it's the same for everyone, there's a Raider camp at coordinates 18,1
On the first floor, to the far right, before you get to the 2nd floor, there's a switch.
Flipping the switch opens up a secret area in the room directly north from the switch.
In the room, behind a furnace is a hidden chest which you can't see, but can click on.
3 times that I went there, each time there was 3-4 map fragments in the chest (alongside other goodies).
The area is pretty high level, so you'll need to have progressed far along.
P.S. For some trivia: I was looking at the arena high scores, and Tseralith (from this very thread) is sitting on the 2nd spot with like a 55k point score
And yep, I managed to get to wave 80+ something before I got defeated. That means enemies are 80 levels above you. I was basically fighting level 100+ enemies at that point. It wouldn't surprise me if the one at first spot managed to beat all 99 waves.
