If you really want play though, and you don't mind doing so in 1-hour chunks, you can sign up for a free Nvidia GFN account and stream the game through that. Free tier is limited to session lengths of 1 hour, but no limit on the number of sessions per day; you just need to wait in a queue and let the ads play (and you can't switch the window either while you wait, it'll detect if it not active or something and pause the ads you need to watch.)
We've made vast performance upgrades to HumanitZ and so far we've had a lot of positive feedback from SteamDeck users. We're still not ready to say it's 100% ready, but it runs much better than it did 2 months ago. So far no negative Deck feedback since this recent change, hopefully you give a try again :)

The issue I have is with the controller support. I know this and steamdeck support are ongoing but right now is just too clunky on controller - really needs some quality of life improvements to make switching weapons and healing easier in the middle of a fight. Also aiming with sticks needs some work, is very hard to get headshots or run and gun. Not complaining though, I am sure they will improve things - mouse and keyboard (even on deck) is still a way better experience.
I look forward to improvements int he future.

What settings do you use ingame. Mine stutters but Im sure its because I just havent really set it up properly. I use the track pad for aiming and the joystick for movement. This type of game is what the Steam Deck is made for. It will never really feel good on controller unless some form of auto aim is added but I dont see that happening.
If you use the trackpad you can put the cursor right on their head and get some pretty good movement but of course its going to depend on comfortable you feel using the trackpad.

Regarding setting I just limited the framerate to 30 on deck settings and turned post processing and textures to high from ultra as couldn’t tell visual difference.
Biggest hurdles at the moment are screen size, small text etc and aiming is taking some getting used to.
If these can be sorted I think its going to be a decent experience on the deck
