So anybody using steamdeck
Hi anybody got some good playtime on the deck?.I've purchased Humanitiz already but my only means of playing is through the steamdeck.I tried briefly when I bought the game a while back and it seemed to run ok ish.
I know steamdeck is roadmapped to be worked on,My question is,Is it worth playing now in current state or wait for the improvements to come?

I've tried, but it was last year before the Halloween and Christmas patches dropped, so I don't know what those did for playability. Overall, it wasn't a very good experience. That having been said though, it's important to note that I don't really mess with Deck settings and games; I'm very much an "out of the box" type, so if you're willing to have a go at dialing in the settings, you might have a much better experience.

If you really want play though, and you don't mind doing so in 1-hour chunks, you can sign up for a free Nvidia GFN account and stream the game through that. Free tier is limited to session lengths of 1 hour, but no limit on the number of sessions per day; you just need to wait in a queue and let the ads play (and you can't switch the window either while you wait, it'll detect if it not active or something and pause the ads you need to watch.)

Hey Memonkey,

We've made vast performance upgrades to HumanitZ and so far we've had a lot of positive feedback from SteamDeck users. We're still not ready to say it's 100% ready, but it runs much better than it did 2 months ago. So far no negative Deck feedback since this recent change, hopefully you give a try again :)

Can confirm that performance is not a problem on Steamdeck OLED at least, have it locked to 30 and is very smooth.

The issue I have is with the controller support. I know this and steamdeck support are ongoing but right now is just too clunky on controller - really needs some quality of life improvements to make switching weapons and healing easier in the middle of a fight. Also aiming with sticks needs some work, is very hard to get headshots or run and gun. Not complaining though, I am sure they will improve things - mouse and keyboard (even on deck) is still a way better experience.
Thanks for the feedback,Sounds like its worth me having another go soon then.
I look forward to improvements int he future.

Hey thanks for this, I'll get with Yoz and see what we can do in terms of specific Deck support for a better controller experience.

What settings do you use ingame. Mine stutters but Im sure its because I just havent really set it up properly. I use the track pad for aiming and the joystick for movement. This type of game is what the Steam Deck is made for. It will never really feel good on controller unless some form of auto aim is added but I dont see that happening.

If you use the trackpad you can put the cursor right on their head and get some pretty good movement but of course its going to depend on comfortable you feel using the trackpad.

See I have no problem at all aiming with the controller, but it could be because I'm biased as it's been my primary responsibility for the past year. I hardly ever use MnK unless it's in the project itself. I can one-tap almost everyone to include the Leapers mid-air and the Brute Runners. So to say it will never feel really good on controller without auto-aim, that's not entirely accurate. Just takes some getting used to. Much like when I switched to Bumper Jumper in Halo. Rewired the old noodle :)

Funny I couldn’t get the trackpad to play nicely. It was really jerky motion, almost like on or off rather than proportional movement.

Regarding setting I just limited the framerate to 30 on deck settings and turned post processing and textures to high from ultra as couldn’t tell visual difference.
Been playing a little bit,I set to 30fps and lowered settings, runs fine imo.
Biggest hurdles at the moment are screen size, small text etc and aiming is taking some getting used to.
If these can be sorted I think its going to be a decent experience on the deck

I run linux nobara for ALL my games. I've found that if a game is steamdeck playable I can play any game with few if any modifications, this goes for modding as well. I've been playing this game for 20hrs or so on my home pc nobara linux, 60inch tv, settings maxed out without any issues except my q & e keys won't rotate the camera angle and the text is way to small to read. All else runs well so far as I can see with the few hours I've played.
I’ve just got this, plays great but after a few hours I get some terrible stutter. Don’t know if there’s a memory leak or something. Only happens after maybe two three hours play. I use a portable monitor and tiny keyboard and mouse an apart from the weird stutter that appears the game runs great. An I’ve had it running with high settings.
