Has the wind direction changed?
Hi all,

I haven't played the game for a long time. I used this map a lot:
https://moffkalast.github.io/Sailwind-Map/
It gave among other things the "average" wind direction (+/- variable depending on the region). I am currently in the Emerald Archipelago and the wind is blowing towards the northeast. This is completely the opposite of what I was used to. Is this map obsolete?

Thx in advance.

(sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language).

the site refuses to fully load and goes blank half way so i cant confirm but this is the one im using and its been pretty accurate so far. keep in mind its only a weighted chance to actually get the wind shown on here.

Thanks for your answer. Seems to be the same of my link.
For my wind problem, perhaps i was in the "overlap region"...

well according to the wiki you only get a 25% weighted chance to get the actual trade wind so you might have just been unlucky. for example out of my 5 trips from gold rock to dragon cliffs 4 had rear wind for the first half and front wind for the second half, requiring some tacking, but on the return trip it was always full rear wind all the way to gold rock without exceptions, its a small sample size but perhaps the trade winds arent as cut and dry as the wiki might have one believe.

it's just the so-called prevailing wind isn't all that prevailing.
in Emerald wind there are prevailing and counter-prevailing phases, while in Aestrin the RNG range is so great the prevailing direction means next to nothing.

Ok thanks for your answers! :)

the wind originates from your quest location, at least that is what it seems like sometimes

it does not. it may feel like it, but that's because the best payouts are usually upwind.

we've been over this multiple times. it does not.

again, the best payouts are generally upwind, so if you're just taking contracts/ trades blindly, you're always going to be going against the prevailing wind.

knowing the prevailing winds, i pick the profitable things that are /downwind/ instead. not as big a profit margin, but profitable all the same.

there's only a sixth of the circuit, or less, that is against the prevailing wind.

well sail to Chronos once and you'll discover it definitely doesn't.

I confirm, the winds have become much more chaotic than before. I am heading from GoldRock to Aestrin, a route I have taken many times. I have almost always had the wind in my back. Now I am 3 days from Aestrin and I have a wind blowing towards the South. It is the first time that this has happened to me...

Full disclosure, haven't played since the update but I have noticed many times in the past that (a) the high and highest wind strengths can be quite variable especially if (b) there's a storm system passing nearby, perhaps outside of render distance but near enough. Changing course might bring the storm over the horizon or your course is already mostly away from it, and the wind will tend back to prevailing afterwards.

I don't agree at all. I have almost 400 hours of play and I have never found myself with a wind totally opposite to the region's prevailing wind.
I also wonder if the fact that my save is very old could be a cause of malfunction...

I'm three times more hours than that. It can,m it rarely "sticks" and the presence of a storm system will introduce more variations. Storms don't seem to have a single direction either, I've watched them change course.

I still remain convinced of what I am saying! ;)
