Sailwind

Sailing against wind. Help!!!
I've been sailing all over the place with large Junk, and then I've decided to buy the large boat at Aestrin (why have I done this!!!). I'm trying to get to Al'ankh but it's so painfully slow!!!!!!! I've got SW wind all the time, I'm trying to alternate between sailing S and W but it's still barely manageable to gain any substantial speed. Any advice?!?!?!?

Right, I'm going to make return trip to Fort Aestrin, as it looks as it will be all the way with wind blowing right from behind. It better do significantly better or I'm grabbing my Junk back!

The Junk's are my favorite ships in this game, so far. Can't wait to see what other types he adds.

Large brig requires far more fidgeting with sails I'd travel directions.

Press F1 it might help sailing against the wind.

You might need to tack and sail on a course with wind aft of the sails which is not a direct route from Aestrin to Al'ankh. Or you only use the brig's jib and spanker only, in case of headwind. They should still propel the boat at decent pace.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tacking_(sailing) Sail in zigzags against the wind if you need to, I haven't used square sails yet but from my understanding, they require this sort of maneuver more so than Junk sails.

If you read my post you'll find out I know how to tack/zig zag against the wind and I was doing it. I was looking for either any extra advice, or confirmation that brig is just so slow sailing upwind.

Not sure if this was fixed but the square sail boat goes backwards if you hoist the main sail (square) and just leave the jib up. So it could be a little tricky on a tack - if the main sail isn't getting any wind.

@mojrzesz-choin The starter Aestrin boat can tack without adjustment with the main sail raised, check my guide for detailed instruction. I haven't bought the upgraded boat yet, but I assume the upgraded boat has the same controls. @Frek The only time I've had the boat reverse is if the main sail is facing the wind, or the front sail is overtightened, though I often use both of those deliberately while leaving port to turn around.
After trying it out it seems running the ship on just a spanker and foresail is viable if tacking is not producing the thrust you need. Tacking, however, does work for me, I don't know what's up for you.
