What does using a horn on the Golden Squirrel pet do?

I got the squirrel up to level 5 with the horn and it still does the 30 damage it did at level one and the tool tip still says it has a 15% chance to crit for 200% damage.

Am i missing something or am i just wasting horns?

I think it's a bug.
We stopped leveling up pets because the return doesn't really improve them overall.
We prefer to focus on the attacks / spells with horn upgrades for now. I had the same issue with the squirrel specifically.
Other pets get incrementally stronger with levels, but I wouldn't recommend it until they balance them better.
