Book is overpowered.
The weapon Book is way overpowered. We had much difficulty beating squire at the start but as soon as realized that all weapons are useless besides book, the other difficulties became trival. Beat the next 2 difficulties one first try and didnt really have to try.

Gettings 40% more dmg on secondary attack and then making it hit 3 times made every enemy die in 1 hit and bosses died in the first 4-5 seconds of them spawning, including end of chapter bosses. Secondary start hitting at around 70-80 dmg per hit which is enough for small fry at the begining but at the end of a run would be hitting for 3k-4k, and if i made it hit 3 times would be around 4-6k. Very spammable. If bosses stopped moving to cast any ability they would die shortly after.

Sword is okay with constant movement, but it just doesn't do enough damage.
Hammer locking you in place to attack just gets you killed over and over and over again.

Yeah, the book goes insane. It has great base damage AND many sources of multi-hit, so it works with pretty much anything.

And anything with good range and damage is gonna tower over anything melee. I'm willing to be proven wrong, but it seems like you don't get much of a bonus on damage at melee.

Book with Oberon and the fury stacking boon worked well for me. Each card the book throws out counts as 1 source of damage. So I can get 10 stack fury very fast with his light attack. Then I got the boon that gave you a damage buff after getting 10 stack fury and it got even stronger.
Book is definitely a busted weapon. If you can snag the Sword in the Stone buff, "Reading in Reverse" (or some facsimile thereof) and then grab the extra projectiles on light attack, you can absolutely destroy everything. Grab chill on light attack and freeze with enough chill and even bosses were getting almost insta-frozen.

the cannon is broken if you pair it with the giant boon and make it so every enemy will be stunned with each hit and you can stun lock early game bosses easily

I use the Damage over time aspect on the staff, then upgrade with 2 more projectiles and if im lucky the big damage on direct attack. Crit city

I really enjoyed the book. I do think some weapons could be brought up in power but I hate the idea of nerfing book just because some weapons are borderline unplayable.

yeah i got the triple projectiles and went for backstab build. the explosion spread ensured 2 of 3 counted as sides so and was just 1-2 shoting things and being pretty safe because of constant invisibility.

the bell seemed really bad. getting the light instant hit might make it better but as it is its a huge pain to make it work.

Agree. I wish all the ranged weapons that need it are brought up to the book's level, and that melee weapons get a big general boost to make up for the danger involved playing melee.
EDIT: as others have mentioned, hitstun would be an incredible improvement to melee.

Yeah, I really struggled with the bell. It's not the fastest at applying stacks of poison/chill/etc, and all its light and heavy attack variations have very specific ranges for little reward. Also experienced a lot of dash-related weirdness on it; felt like some of its recovery animations canceled dashes.

Love the idea of a sound-based weapon, though, and its shots being able to go through walls is a neat gimmick.

So far every long ranged character with big bombs is multiple tiers better/easier than melee. Easier to get to bosses at near full health, easier to beat bosses since you're not forced to look and position for those .3 second safe-melee-attack windows.

Cannon Rook (light attack), Armillary Spectre (heavy attack), Tome Monk (heavy attack). These are the characters you'll beat the game with the most often.

Of course, the focus on big bomb ranged attacks means a handful of gods are less worthwhile. you'll have trouble keeping fury stacks, what does 10 damage poison ticks matter when you hit for 100?

It's not that these weapons are broken, it's a matter of *HOW* melee unfrendly the game is.

i absolutely agree. when i first noticed that we do not stagger enemies on attacks the close range weapons lost a lot of appeal. add in some enemies that are very dangerous up close and it gets bad for meele.

Monk 's last magic is a shield, it can reduce damage taken, so basically any weapon in monk's hand is easy to use. The bell's sword-in-stone upgrades can make its heavy attack automatically aim at enemy, so as the paladin hammer. You can have 1 magic and 3 dash if you upgrade the skill tree, So it's easy to just keep on dashing and spamming those ranged attack. And you can always have a shield on.
