High value targets?

I have been looking through the first sector for almost an hour and I simply can not find the HVT there. The containers I always get just randomly after an error occurs in a mission. But I decided to go into the first sector without one. And I simply can not find it. Is it bugged and does not spawn or am I just not able to find it?

I found them all. It's a bit tricky but you can get reliable results by searching towards the "sides" of the maps where the enemy base objective is not. The HVT's can also be outside of the asteroids but they are never far and they are moving while the supply cache is stationary.

Can they be above or below the center plane outside the asteroids? I have yet to be able to find the hvt or the container site in the first sector and I've been ALL OVER the damn map.

Sometimes they are outside but just so. If you get any error message loading into a map, it means they probably have not spawned. But I can recommend you to search the areas away from the starting base and the enemy base (not the sensor arrays). In the first map the HVT for example to my recollection was just outside of the asteroids to the right of the starting base. But I could mix a map there up so see for yourself.

I have a different problem. Occasionally I'll get a message that I've somehow spotted a high value target...but I look around and can never find it. There really needs to be some clarity on locating these things...

I gave up trying to find HVT and other such targets, travel time and random spawns just muddle the results, feels like i'm wasting time for half an hour finding random spawns. Needs some scanning gameplay to narrow down certain areas.

Yeah like maybe special equipment or a special ability on the Prowler that lets you do periodic long range passive detection (IR from reactors and propulsion) or super radar pings or something... passive detection seems the most useful since you don't need to wait for it to come back and it doesn't broadcast your presence and position.
