I find myself gravitating towards MMod when I randomly wanna play Half-Life, but its not a HUGE improvement. It has some cool new features, changes some weapon behaviors, and I like it. Theres also a lot of settings in the game so that you can customize most things youd want.

If we're talking about a first time playthrough, Id still recommend the original.

I wouldn't go that far. But as someone who knows the vanilla game like the back of her hand, it's a fresh take on one of my favorite games.

The original game aged quite well, and that is stil the recommended way for first time players as the user above me said.

Half-Life was always a fun game. MMod being fun is more of a testament to how good vanilla Half-Life really is. I wouldn't say MMod is better. But the modified chapters and weapons offer a fresh take, and that's what makes it interesting and worth playing. It's a fun experiment on something we're already so familiar with.

what about the hl restored mod? i read it includes hd textures and expands a bit the game using unused assets; also, can both mods work at the same time (this one and restored), if this one doesnt have its own textures? im also unsure where to start.

I remember it as a very buggy mod, that ads very little. And some of the stuf added is now covered by MMod too. Even if they were compatible, I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah, I remember that mod being buggy, for example music cut off at loading screens, also a lot of the things it restored were cut for a reason.

don't know but i can't play HL2 without MMod anymore
i tried playing vanilla half life 1 and it made me miss mmod. cannot say the same for half life 2 mmod however. would recommend half life 1 mmod, and then vanilla half life 2 for new people until mmod v2 is complete
